There are no more excuses for Aaron Rodgers after the Jets traded for Davante Adams. The good news for Rodgers is that the Jets defense still ranks third in the league on a yards-per-play basis, and fifth in the rate at which they are pressuring opposing passers (39%).

If it's Russell Wilson making his first start, I am even more confident pressure will wreck the Steelers' offensive game plan. Pittsburgh is 24th in the league in pass block win rate, and now that offensive line will be missing both center Zach Frazier and guard James Daniels. According to Pro Football Focus, Frazier has graded as the fourth-best center in football, while Daniels has been the best guard in the league in 2024 to date. Both were essential in winning the line of scrimmage for a team built around the running game, something Wilson will desperately need versus this Jets defense.

Justin Fields has been pressured on 39% of his dropbacks this season, and his athleticism has greatly assisted in turning potential negative plays into neutral, or even positive, gains at times. I'd be surprised if we don't see both Steelers' quarterbacks play on Sunday night, and the handicap will not change regardless of who is trying to move the ball behind this decimated offensive line.

I expect the New York defense to dominate this game, with Rodgers doing his part en route to the Jets avoiding a 2-5 start.

Pick: Jets -1.5 (Bet to -2.5)

Under 39 (-110)

The Jets are hoping to save their offense – and their season – by adding wide receiver Davantae Adams to the mix. Aaron Rodgers' former star wide receiver is reuniting with his quarterback to bolster a unit that’s averaging just 18.8 points per game.

That might work – but I don’t think it will be this week. New York faces a Steelers team that’s allowing just 14.3 points per game and ranks in the top 10 by defensive DVOA.

On the Steelers side, the move to Russell Wilson could easily hurt their offensive outlook. Wilson was bad when he last got starting reps and is nowhere near as mobile as Justin Fields. That’s important considering the state of the line play in this game. Pittsburgh ranks 27th in adjusted sack rate allowed on offense, while the Jets defense ranks third in adjusted sack rate.

On top of that, it should be a fairly slow paced game. Pittsburgh ranks in the top five in time of possession at over 32 minutes per game, while the Jets are above average with 30:30 per contest. That means about two and a half minutes total will be “lost” relative to the typical game flow from both teams.

Better days could be in store for both offenses, but let’s wait one more week before we bet on it.

Pick: Under 39 (-110)

Najee Harris Over 53.5 Rushing Yards (-115)

Najee Harris hasn't been great this season, but the volume has been good. Harris has not had less than 13 rushing attempts in any game this season and if he plays this weekend, he should see 15+ carries.

With Russell Wilson likely at the helm, I expect the Steelers to run the ball often to take pressure off their new quarterback. The Jets don't have a bad run defense, but teams tend to run the ball more against them due to their stout pass defense. With a 1.5-point spread, this should be a close game that will allow the Steelers to stick to their ground-and-pound ways.

I have Harris projected for more than 10 yards over this number, making this a great bet.

Pick: Najee Harris Over 53.5 Rushing Yards (-115)
