The Seattle Kraken and Vancouver Canucks are two of the worst teams at creating offense in the NHL.
On the season, Seattle is 29th in expected goals for at even strength, while the Canucks are 31st. Not to mention, both rank in the bottom five of the league when it comes to creating high danger scoring chances.
If you look at both teams' offensive numbers since the start of February they’re even worse. Both Seattle and Vancouver have scored more than 2 goals in just one game since February 6th.
In terms of special teams, Vancouver has the 7th best ranked penalty kill, while Seattle is the third fewest penalized team in the NHL this season. So I can’t imagine there will be a ton of powerplay goals in this one.
Seattle has been a solid defensive team for most of the year, as they rank Top 10 in blocked shots and fewest giveaways.
Both matchups between these two teams this season have gone over, 5-4 and 4-3 finals with both games going to overtime. However, the goalie matchup in both of those was Demko vs Grubauer. Demko is on IR again and Grubauer got waived by the Kraken at the end of January.
We have yet to see the best goalie matchup of Lankinen vs Daccord, which is what I think we’ll get tonight.
Daccord is having another impressive season with almost 22 goals saved above expected. Meanwhile, Lankinen is having his best season of his career, especially on the road, with a 14-4-3 record, .914 SV%, and 2.30 GAA away from Rogers Arena.
This should be a slower, low shooting affair that ends up 3-1 or 3-2 in overtime.
