Lynx vs. Sun
By Maltman
The Connecticut Sun and the Minnesota Lynx face off on Thursday night, and these two teams have some familiarity with each other. Last year, they played each other 4 times during the regular season, and then met during the first round of the playoffs and played another three games against each other. Alyssa Thomas was incredible over those 7 games (she was incredible all of last year, for what it's worth). In particular, she averaged 9.85 assists per game against them, and 10.3 during the regular season, 2nd best against any other team during the regular season. Minnesota played her to score, and she made them pay with the pass last year.
Thomas opened up the season with 13 assists, but has had under 10 the last two games, which is why the odds are long here, and she hasn't had a triple double since that first game. She had 6 last year: this is a great opportunity to get back to it. She had 2 triple doubles in here 4 regular season games versus the Lynx, and 10+ assists in 5 of her 7 games. I'm backing her to continue that success against the Lynx. Betting .25u on Alyssa Thomas 10+ assists at +245 on Fanduel (would bet down to +200), and .1u on a triple double at +550 on Fanduel (would bet down to +450).
Pick: Alyssa Thomas 10+ assists and triple double
Sky vs. Liberty
Jonquel Jones has cleared this twice in four games this season, and has two near misses at 14 each.
The worry is that this is a blowout where her minutes are limited, which basically led to the two unders.
In this case, the Chicago Sky interior, headlined by Angel Reese and Elizabeth Williams, aren't enough to scare me off this.
Jones is back to being an All-Star level center and is averaging 17.3 points in 28.5 minutes per contest, good for 30.5 points per 100 possessions, which would be the second best of her career.
Sustainable? Maybe. Against the Sky? I think so.
