Sky vs. Liberty
By Joe Dellera
The Liberty play their second game in as many days, and I’m targeting Breanna Stewart in this spot.
Stewie started off hot against the slow-paced Sun on Wednesday and now gets a matchup against a Sky team that plays at the third-fastest Pace in the WNBA.
Back-to-backs are not super common in the W; however, both teams are in this spot, so neither team has a rest advantage.
When Stewart has played the Sky this season, she’s recorded 33 Points + Rebounds + Assists (PRA) and 50 PRA and has proven a very difficult cover for the dynamic rookie duo of Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso.
Stewart has exceeded this 31.5 PRA line in 52% of her games this season, including four of her last five while averaging 34.4 PRA in that stretch.
Pick: Breanna Stewart Over 31.5 PRA (-135)
Sky vs. Liberty
The Liberty have held four of their last five opponents under 78.5 points, as well as their last two home opponents.
The Sky, of course, upset the Liberty in Brooklyn 90-81 on May 23 before the Liberty got their lick back with a 13-point win about two weeks later.
The Liberty defense is still one of the best in the league, and if we're eyeing a potential cover for the Liberty as 10-point favorites, it increases the chances of an under for the Sky, who have gone under 78.5 in three of their last five.
Pick: Chicago Sky Under 78.5 Points
Sky vs. Liberty
The Sky and Liberty have already played twice this season with each team splitting a win/cover on the road. The Sky won 90-81 at Barclays on May 23, while the Liberty got revenge just over a week later in Chicago 88-75.
In both games, the Sky were winning or within one point at halftime—covering easily in both instances.
The Sky have been the second-best first-half team against the spread this season at 13-6-2, despite just a 9-12 record for full games. My guess is Chicago makes this a close one at half—likely in the second quarter where New York has struggled this season—but the Liberty get the win with a second-half surge.
I like the Sky down to +6 in the first half but wouldn’t go below that.
Pick: Sky First Half +6.5
Sky vs. Liberty
This is not to say that Angel Reese’s double-double streak will end tonight, though you would think it has to at some point.
Nonetheless, this number is simply too high. Reese has gone under 13.5 rebounds in two of her last three games, and when she exceeded this line, she just barely went over with 14 rebounds.
In two games against the Liberty, Reese hasn't gotten over 10 rebounds against a frontcourt led by Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart.
It will be a tall task for Reese to reach 14 boards tonight, and though there's a world where the double-double streak continues, even that is far from a given.
