As injuries have run rampant in the first round of the NBA playoffs, the Clippers have been one of the teams most affected. As the series shifts back to Phoenix, the Clippers will be without both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in a win-or-go-home Game 5.
Enter Russell Westbrook, who has taken on the alpha role in the Clippers offense. The enigmatic point guard has put up 42 and 41 total points and assists in each of the last two games without Leonard, seeing a whopping 34% Usage Rate in each contest.
In the regular season, Westbrook only played three games as a Clipper without Leonard, notching 37, 23 and 46 P+A. It’s a small sample size, but you can’t ignore Brodie’s aggressiveness of late.
Commensurate with his Usage Rate, Westbrook has racked up 24 and 28 drives over the last two games, with 12 and 19 potential assists. And with a Touch Time is more than double that of any other Clipper – it’s safe to say his role is elite right now.
While not always the most efficient player, Westbrook’s motor and will are undeniable. In a make-or-break game for the Clippers, I fully expect to see the former MVP at full throttle. The Suns haven’t been able to slow him down yet, and I don’t see it happening in Game 5.
Westbrook overs can be both fun and terrifying. Tonight, let’s hope for the former, as I have the UCLA product projected at 38 points and assists.
Pick: Russell Westbrook Over 34.5 Points + Assists (-106 | Play to 35.5) |
