You guys really thought I would skip a week writing about my new No. 1 mortal enemy, Trent Dilfer? Well, think again. We head down to Statesboro, Georgia, Saturday as the UAB Blazers will take on the Georgia Southern Eagles.

Dilfer may as well be a toddler on a playground when he doesn't get picked for handball at recess. What he did last week — running a hurry-up offense to give us North Carolina A&T backers a bad beat — should get him locked up in federal prison.

But I'll resist roasting the man even further until the Blazers break down. The real objective here is to find the correct betting angle, so let's not waste time and find a betting pick for UAB vs. Georgia Southern.

UAB Blazers

Can you imagine being a Super Bowl-winning quarterback but throwing 12 touchdowns throughout the entire season? Imagine thinking that qualifies you enough to trademark a good pass a "Dilfer Dime."

Yes, Dilfer decided his offense needed to run uptempo up three scores with three minutes to go in last week's win over NC A&T. Oh, and the Blazers were pinned deep on their own 1-yard line.

Digging into this matchup, the Blazers will need to start fast against a Georgia Southern defense that just shut out The Citadel last week, 34-0.

UAB QB Jacob Zeno looked pretty poised in a lot of his dropbacks, and although this is a step up in competition, I believe he'll find some success.

The Blazers' strength is definitely their defense, but I still have a lot of questions considering all of the lost production they've gone through. They will certainly be put to the test this week against this electric Georgia Southern defense.

One antidote to take away is that this Blazers secondary should contain the Eagles' passing attack a bit, which happens to be the identity of their offense. However, if the Eagles get the ground game going against this porous rush defense, it's going to be a long afternoon for the UAB defense.

Georgia Southern Eagles

Georgia Southern quarterback Davis Brin had a nice debut for the Eagles last week, throwing for two touchdowns and one interception. Although it came against one of the projected worst teams in the FCS, I still liked what I saw from the game film. He certainly didn't look like the Brin of old, who was a walking incompletion at Tulsa.

I like a lot of the offensive pieces the Eagles have, especially outstanding running back Jalen White.

White averaged 5.7 yards per carry last season, and this is a tasty matchup against UAB. Considering the Blazers weren't really challenged in their secondary last week, the threat of Brin will definitely lead to some nice rushing opportunities early on.

This Eagles defense definitely needs some work, as they were one of the worst defensive units across the entire FBS last season. However, they took a positive step in the right direction last week, and it's entirely possible this unit just needed a bit of a shakeup.

New defensive coordinator Brandon Bailey is a Mike Elko descendant, and since he's come over from Buffalo, this program has raved about him. Not for nothing, the Eagles couldn't be much worse defensively, so any signs of positive regression is a huge win.

I think Georgia Southern has enough firepower on offense to put away the Blazers early, and I think that will set up for some sloppy turnovers from Zeno.

Betting Pick & Prediction

If the intro wasn't obvious enough, we're once again fading Dilfer here.

All jokes aside, I'm still not a believer in this Blazers team. I simply think they've lost too much talent, and the lack of ability on the coaching staff is definitely going to hurt them throughout the rest of the season.

I think Georgia Southern brings enough firepower on offense to dismantle this UAB defense, and I think it comfortably pulls this one out.

I'm sure Dilfer will celebrate like he won the Super Bowl when his team creeps through the backdoor to end the game — after all, his team won't have much else to celebrate the rest of the season.

Pick: Georgia Southern -7.5 (Play to -9.5)
