Angels vs. Red Sox Odds & Betting Predictions - June 3, 2025

Congrats to the Angels for taking advantage of some good fortune and putting up a monster 1st inning last night against Richard Fitts, but once Fitts was removed this offense came back down to earth. In the final 8 innings last night, the Angels totaled just 4 hits and 1 run against Hunter Dobbins and the lower tier arms in the Boston bullpen. Tonight they'll get a tougher task early against Brayan Bello who hasn't been great, but has been significantly better against RHH throughout his career (.305 wOBA, 3.34 FIP v. RHH / .362 wOBA, 5.08 FIP v. LHH). The only LHH on the Angels roster are Schanuel and Rengifo (S) so this is a good matchup for Bello to be effective. Yusei Kikuchi starts for the Angels and while we discussed the Red Sox issues with LHP yesterday, they looked just fine against Tyler Anderson with 7 hits and 2 BBs over 4.1 innings. Kikuchi has been throwing the ball fairly well, but he's also not a guy that we typically see get beyond the 6th inning. Kikuchi could pitch well, but I feel it also works in Boston's advantage that they're seeing LHP on consecutive days. Even if Kikuchi puts together a solid outing, the Red Sox will have chances late against this Angels bullpen. The Angels used all of their top 4 arms last night and it's unlikely we see Strickland or Zeferjahn tonght and potentially won't see Detmers after he threw 28 pitches yesterday. If that's the case, Ron Washington will be left with some combination of Brock Burke, Connor Brogdon, and Hector Neris to get this ball to Jansen in the 9th. By falling behind early yesterday, the Red Sox were able to save their entire bullpen for tonight. The top 5 arms in the Boston pen are all rested with Garrett Whitlock also being available for multiple innings if needed. They're in a spot where even if they're trailing, they should use some of their better arms considering they're more rested than the mid-tier relievers. They can afford to chase this game with a massive bullpen advantage and I'm simply not buying this Angels offense at the moment.

VIP got this last night and caught really good CLV Tyler Anderson gives us another chance to take Kikuchi in a great spot. Anderson wasn't able to make it out of the 4th inning, forcing the Angels to use 5 bullpen arms, so Kikuchi should get a longer leash here, as he has had most starts following Anderson. Kikuchi has gone over this line in 9/12 games this season and has been great on this line on the road, going over in 6/7. While Kikuchi hasn't had that great of numbers, he is a guy who has consistently shown he can eat some innings, going over this line in 16/L19 games dating back to last season. The Boston lineup has not impressed recently and struggles more vs LHP. This is mainly a bullpen play, and the Angels would love to get 6 IP out of him here. This line is just too low for a guy who is normally always at a 17.5 line vs tougher matchups.
