Chicago Cubs 2025 Season Preview

The Chicago Cubs embark on the 2025 MLB season hoping to build off the strides made in Year 1 of the Craig Counsell era. The Cubs missed the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season but posted an 83-79 record.  

The Cubs should be have a solid shot at winning the NL Central this season because of the moves they made in the offseason. The biggest acquisition was outfielder Kyle Tucker via a trade with the Houston Astros. Additionally, the Cubs picked up pitchers Colin Rea and Matthew Boyd to improve their rotation. 

Rookie third baseman Matt Shaw is genarating a lot of buzz. Shaw's offensive ability makes him a viable contender for NL Rookie of the Year. 

Key returning players include left fielder Ian Happ and designated hitter Seiya Suzuki.

Based on their odds, the Cubs have a 63.64 percent implied probability of reaching the playoffs in 2025. It'll definitely be interesting to see if the Cubs come roaring back into the postseason.

Cubs Over/Unders

Over/under, also called point total, is a wager placed on the combined scoring of a single game. Bookmakers come up with a number and you can either bet the over or — you guessed it — the under. Here’s how it works:

Let's say the Brewers play the Cubs and the over/under is set at 7.5 runs. A wager on the over would require Milwaukee and Chicago to score eight total runs or more to win. Betting the under is an expectation that the two teams would score seven or fewer runs. The minus (-) and plus (+) signs distinguish the favorite from the underdog, making Chicago the favorite in this scenario.
