Virginia Cavaliers 2025 Season Preview
The Virginia Cavaliers will look to improve in the 2025 football season following an 11-23 start under head coach Tony Elliot over the course of the last three seasons. While Elliott's Virginia tenure has started slow, a two-win leap in the 2024 season from 2023 and 2022 seasons could be a sign of good things to come.
Quarterback Chandler Morris is now playing for his fourth school, but he had a strong 2024 season (31 passing touchdowns), which should give the Cavaliers some hope. The wide receiver room is unproven and inexperienced, while reshirt junior running back Xavier Brown should become the lead back this year after averaging 6.1 yards per carry last season.
Defense was a major issue for the Cavaliers last season. They ranked near the bottom in scoring defense and surrendered over 400 total yards per game. The Cavaliers need to generate more sacks as well, as just one player had more than 2.5 sacks last season (linebacker Kam Robinson).
While the Virginia Cavaliers may face some hurdles, the program has a history of turning things around under previous head coaches, including Bronco Mendenhall and Al Groh. The team will strive to improve their recent seasons and work towards contention in the ACC, which is a conference that's not packed with dominant programs currently.
Virginia Cavaliers Point Spreads
