Joe Burrow clutched his right wrist in pain after tossing a touchdown pass midway through the second quarter against the Baltimore Ravens. He immediately headed into the blue medical tent, and after attempting to throw a couple passes on the sideline, ran into the locker room for X-rays. The Bengals initially announced he was questionable to return with a wrist injury, and eventually ruled him out after halftime.
Head Coach Zac Taylor said after the game that it looks like Burrow sprained his wrist, and that they should have more information in the coming days.
Jake Browning replaced Burrow under center. Initially signed as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings in 2019, Browning’s been on and off the Bengal’s roster dating back to 2021. He’s attempted only one pass in his career, an incompletion against the Browns in this year’s season opener.
Sean Koerner, Action Network’s Director of Predictive Analytics, says there’s a six-point difference against the spread going from Burrow to Browning.
One of the league’s biggest stars since entering the league, Burrow had the fifth-best MVP odds (+1000), according to ESPN BET heading into Week 11. Cincinnati was also +400 to win the AFC North, had the eighth-best odds to win the Super Bowl (+1200), and was -145 to make the playoffs.
Burrow was off to a hot start against the Ravens in a pivotal game for the Bengals’ postseason chances. He was 11-of-17 for 101 yards and had also thrown a four-yard touchdown pass to Joe Mixon. He completed 264-of-404 passes on the year for 2,688 yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptions heading into Thursday Night Football.
