The Jordan Love era begins in a competitive sense as we make a Packers vs. Bengals pick for tonight's NFL preseason game.

Love is expected to see more time tonight in Cincinnati than most other NFL starters, as the Packers hope to get him confident heading into the regular season.

The Bengals will be without Joe Burrow, as well as most of their other noteworthy starters. Head coach Zac Taylor has never been big on the preseason, and that doesn't look like it'll change anytime soon.

Check out our Packers vs. Bengals preview and breakdown of the odds below.

Matchup Analysis

The most obvious absence from this game will be Joe Burrow, who is dealing with a calf strain that may cause him to miss the start of the regular season. It’s unlikely Burrow would’ve played anyway since he didn’t play at all in the preseason last year despite being healthy.

Under center for Cincinnati, we should expect to see a healthy dose of Trevor Siemian as the Bengals try to prepare him for a potential Week 1 start against the Browns. Siemian saw limited playing time with the Bears last year but did start four games back in 2021 for the Saints. He has been solid in the preseason throughout his career with six touchdowns to just one interception.

Siemian will not be able to throw to WRs Jamarr Chase and Tee Higgins as Zac Taylor made it pretty clear the starters will see little to no playing time for the Bengals.

After Siemian, the Bengals will turn to a combination of QB Jake Browning and Reid Sinnett, both of whom have little/no NFL experience.

The Packers will be a bit less conservative with their starters as they are expected to see some time early in this game.

Love should see at least a quarter of playing time. After him, we will get a combination of Penn State rookie QB Sean Clifford and journeyman Alex McGough, who signed with the Packers from the USFL just a few weeks ago.

This will be a high-variance game once the Packers' starters leave the field since we're going to see two QBs with virtually no NFL experience.

Betting Picks & Predictions

This game could go a number of ways in the second half, so I’m leaning towards the Packers on the 1H spread since that's the most targeted way to get exposure to the Packers' first team matching up with the Bengals' second-string players. Expect Matt LaFleur to be aggressive with Love as they continue to prepare him for his first season as QB1. LaFleur will probably scheme up some shots for Love, which should bode well for a Packers offense that will have edges everywhere against the Bengals defense it will be facing.

I don’t want to be involved with the Packers once Clifford and McGough take the field in the second half, so I’ll lay the -2.5 on the first-half spread for my best play in this game.

Pick: Packers 1H -2.5
