It’s the preseason, which means nothing is a given and all we can do is speculate roughly when QBs will be in the game. I try to estimate when certain QBs/units will be in the game to plan my pre/in-game betting strategy.
Everything is subject to change, and I update these charts as we get more information.
Jets vs. Panthers
We should see Bryce Young and the starting unit for 1-1 1/2 quarters. Matt Corral should play the next two or so quarters before Jake Luton closes out the fourth.
For the Jets, Zach Wilson will start and could play into the third quarter before Tim Boyle closes it out.
Luton vs. Boyle in the fourth could be very low scoring. I'll be looking to potentially buy in on that in-game.
Jaguars vs. Cowboys
Cooper Rush will likely play the first half with Will Grier getting the second half. Trevor Lawrence and the rest of the Jaguars starters should see 1-2 drives before turning it over to C.J. Beathard, who has been solid in preseason with a 7.7 yards per attempt and 90.9 QB Rating on 184 career attempts.
The first half could be fairly high-scoring for a Week 1 game. Nathan Rourke will get most of the second half. He has massive rushing upside which is always more valuable in the second half of these Week 1 games with third or fourth stringers out there on both sides of the ball.
Eagles vs. Ravens
Tyler Huntley, Josh Johnson and Anthony Brown will all likely play 1-1 1/2 quarters each and possibly in that order. The Ravens aren’t expected to play any key starters. Meanwhile, Marcus Mariota, Ian Book and Tanner McKee will all likely play 1-1 1/2 quarters each, possibly in that order, for the Eagles.
This seems like a pretty even matchup on paper with both teams having nearly identical strategies with similar talent at QB. Count me out as joining everyone on Ravens -5.5 here.
Chargers vs. Rams
Easton Stick will likely play the entire first half for the Chargers and possibly into the third quarter. We will then see Max Duggan close out the game. Duggan has the rushing upside that can be valuable in the second half of a Week 1 preseason game.
Brett Rypien will start for the Rams and play close to a half before giving way to Stetson Bennett, who could play most of the second half before potentially letting Dresser Winn close out the game.
This is going to be a very low-scoring game, and both teams are expected to evaluate their backup RBs heavily. We will get to see a re-match of the College Football Playoff Championship with Max Duggan vs. Stetson Bennett at SoFi Stadium, which is pretty cool.
