It’s the preseason, which means nothing is a given and all we can do is speculate roughly when QBs will be in the game.
I try to estimate when certain QBs/units will be in the game to plan my pre/in-game betting strategy. Everything is subject to change and I update these charts as we get more information.
Ravens vs. Commanders
The Ravens are expected to rest their starters tonight, and even backup QB Tyler Huntley may not suit up tonight as he deals with a hamstring injury. Therefore, it’s likely we see Josh Johnson under center for the first half, with Anthony Brown under center for the second half.
Both Johnson and Brown struggled mightily against the Eagles last week. Brown was a brutal 3-for-8 for 7 yards (0.9 yards per attempt), including a costly pick-six that allowed the Eagles to get the backdoor cover.
The Commanders will likely have the same plan as last week. That means Sam Howell and the starters should play 1-1 1/2 quarters before Jacoby Brissett handles the next 1-1 1/2 quarters, with Jake Fromm closing out the game. That means that Washington will have NFL starting QBs handling the first three quarters, with most of the first-team offense playing the first 1-1 1/2 quarters.
The Commanders should have a clear edge for most of this game but find themselves as 1.5-point home 'dogs because of the Ravens' historic preseason run. This is a situation where I think the market is being inflated too much based on historic trends, so I’m going to back the team that should be able to come away with a win based on who is actually playing in this game.
