We're making a Vikings vs Seahawks pick as both teams enter the preseason looking to push to new heights this season after losing in the NFC Wild Card Round last season.

Their QB1s, Kirk Cousins and Geno Smith, will not be playing this game, but there's still plenty of intrigue around the players who will be on the field. Let's break down the Vikings vs Seahawks odds and make a pick.

Matchup Analysis

The Vikings will start Nick Mullens at quarterback, and he has turned into a solid journeyman option for these preseason games. Mullens did enough last year as Kirk Cousins’ backup to earn himself a two-year contract extension in the offseason.

One would assume that means Mullens has been doing all of the right things on the practice field and should be looking good for this game.

The Vikings will be bringing in rookie QB Jaren Hall out of BYU for the second half. Hall had a great career at BYU and was a quarterback who got some late hype in the draft last year. He's very athletic and can make almost any throw on the field.

The word out of Vikings camp is that there is a chance that Jaren Hall could just steal the show tonight just as Dorian Thompson-Robinson did in the Hall of Fame game.

On the Seahawks' side, Drew Lock will start the game for the Seahawks. He's a very solid backup, but I wouldn’t put him on a level much higher than Nick Mullens. If anything, he might be more prone to turnovers, which is not what you want in these preseason games.

Once Lock comes out, the Seahawks will also be debuting a rookie quarterback in Holton Ahlers from East Carolina. Ahlers was a great college quarterback to watch, but he is not the prototypical NFL quarterback. He loves to scramble with the ball and is very physical when he runs.

I’m worried that the NFL speed and power could be an issue for Ahlers after facing AAC competition the past few years.

Betting Picks & Predictions

The Seahawks are also very banged up. Running backs Kenneth Walker III and Kenny McIntosh are both expected to miss this game with injuries, and their other rookie back, Zach Charbonnet, just returned from a camp injury, so I doubt the Seahawks will want to push him hard.

That leaves them very short at the running back position for this game.

Linebacker Darrell Taylor was hurt in practice this week for the Seahawks, joining defensive players Tariq Woolen, Jamal Adams, Jordyn Brooks, Bryan Mone and Austin Faoliu as players who won’t be physically ready to play in this game.

I think the starting quarterbacks in this game are pretty comparable and I prefer Hall of the Vikings when it comes to the two rookie QBs who will see action.

Between that and the injury concerns surrounding the Seahawks, I think the safest way to bet on this game is by taking the points. Things can get messy in these preseason games, and getting over a field goal is a good place to be.
