There are no defenders left at UTSA. They already had to start the season with no starters returning, every time they get an All-AAC level defender they bolt in the portal. And the defense fell off a cliff against the pass. They had their moments stiffling the run, but you saw North Texas kill them with five passing TDs, Texas State move the ball with ease scoring 43 on them on their home field. They’re missing almost all of their experience from an already green defense, could be without 7 starters on defense. And you have a first year head coach who is trying to sell the program to transfers, this is a showcase game for Shotgun Simmons. This offense got cooking late, granted it was against CUSA teams that were most awful, but 43 points per game in November, Jenkins returned late in the year and had a career game against Sam Houston (340, 4 TDs). If Jenkins reaggrevates that groin injury, Joe Pesansky who came over from Holy Cross, he’s a fine QB2. He can run this offense fully, including using his legs and he’s a risk taker, with an aDOT north of 11 in his starts. On the UTSA side of things, fingers crossed for McCown-Henry-Henderson to play. Because if they do, they can run all over the Panthers. Outside the top 110 in Line Yards/Stuff Rate, and they got gouged by big plays all season long. If it’s a full deck for the Roadrunners, they could score 35 no problem.
