Reds vs Yankees MLB Betting Preview
Right-hander Chase Burns takes the mound for the Reds on Sunday and should be a strong candidate to back. The second overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, Burns entered the league last season with high expectations.
He struggled in a limited sample, but those concerns have been alleviated by his dominant start to 2026. Through 14 starts, Burns is 8-1 with a 2.01 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP.
His underlying metrics are equally impressive. Entering this matchup, the right-hander ranks in the 87th percentile or higher in xERA, xBA and strikeout rate.
That said, run support may be difficult to come by for Burns. This season, Cincinnati ranks in the bottom half of the league in runs scored per game, hits per game, slugging percentage and OPS.
The Reds’ struggles at the plate are likely to continue against right-hander Elmer Rodriguez, who gets the ball for the Yankees. Rodriguez was optioned to the minors in May after Gerrit Cole returned from injury, but he left on a high note.
In that outing, Rodriguez allowed just one run across nearly five innings against the New York Mets. He continued to pitch well during his time in Triple-A, posting a 3.00 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP through 10 starts.

Reds vs Yankees Pick, Betting Analysis
It is a favorable opportunity for Rodriguez to build on that success following his most recent call-up, given Cincinnati’s offensive struggles. Over their past 10 games, the Reds own a .707 OPS.
Of course, the biggest obstacle to the under is the Yankees’ powerful lineup. That said, Burns has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season and has allowed two or fewer runs in each of his past 11 starts.
Pick: Under 8.5 (-110 | Play to -115)
