The Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers play the second game of their three-game series on Friday, March 28. First pitch from Dodger Stadium is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. ET; the game will be broadcast on SportsNet LA, FanDuel Sports Detroit and MLB.TV.
The Dodgers, who are 3-0 to start the 2025 MLB season, look poised for another dominant campaign as they entered the season with a betting total of 105.5 wins and are massive favorites to win the NL West. Yoshinobu Yamamoto will make his second start of the season after a strong outing on home soil in the Tokyo Series. He'll be opposed by former Dodger Jack Flaherty, who re-signed with the Tigers over the offseason after helping the Dodgers win the World Series.

Last season's Detroit Tigers authored one of the best stories in baseball. Their upstart young roster went on an incredible run in the final two months of the season and earned a playoff berth before falling in a highly competitive ALDS to the Cleveland Guardians.
The Tigers didn't lose a single player in free agency and, as a result, oddsmakers are expecting another strong campaign. In fact, Detroit is tied with the Minnesota Twins as the betting favorite to win the AL Central.
Second baseman Gleyber Torres is the only significant addition to the lineup, so the Tigers are hoping their talented young core can continue taking steps forward. There's arguments to be made that each of Riley Greene, Colt Keith, Parker Meadows, Trey Sweeney and Kerry Carpenter could improve on last year's results based on their respective career timelines.
In the second half of last season, the Tigers hit to a wRC+ of 100 and slugged .399. Versus right-handed pitching, they held a 103 wRC+ and slugged .403. Most projection systems believe the Tigers will remain around the league's lower third in terms of offensive potency, but the production of their young lineup may hold a wider range of outcomes than most other rosters.
While it's unclear how effective the Tigers lineup will be, the rotation will likely be quite a strength. Jack Flaherty's return to Detroit rounds out a solid five-man unit.
Flaherty had an excellent bounce-back season in 2024, posting a 3.17 ERA across 163 innings. He held a 3.54 xERA, and an xFIP of 3.00. He also had an improved Pitching+ rating of 104, compared to a mark of 100 in 2023. He was solid in his Spring Training outings, posting a 3.94 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP, and should be relatively stretched out after throwing 79 pitches in each of his final two outings.
Dodgers Starting Lineup
- DH Shohei Ohtani
- SS Mookie Betts
- 1B Freddie Freeman
- RF Teoscar Hernandez
- 3B Max Muncy
- 2B Tommy Edman
- LF Michael Conforto
- CF Andy Pages
- C Austin Barnes
- Starting Pitcher: Yoshinobu Yamamoto
If you're not a fan of the Dodgers, chances are you will be rooting against them on a nightly basis. A 2025 season ending with another comfortable World Series win from the Dodgers wouldn't be overly interesting to most fans, and thanks to an absurd payroll, it's something oddsmakers are expecting to happen.
The Dodgers have already bested three excellent starters in Tarik Skubal, Shota Imanaga and Justin Steele on route to their 3-0 record. They have hit to a wRC+ of 128 in their first three matchups and slugged .463. Shohei Ohtani has had an incredible start to the season with an OPS of 1.500 in his first 12 at-bats.
After being sidelined with an illness that reportedly resulted in a loss of 20 pounds, Mookie Betts made his season debut on Thursday and recorded a single and a walk in four plate appearances.
The Dodgers hold a wRC+ of 117 versus right-handed pitching this season and will likely be comparably dominant in 2025 barring significant injury concerns.
Yamamoto pitched well in his season debut, allowing just three hits and one earned run across five innings of work versus the Cubs. He held an xERA of 1.92, and a Pitching+ rating of 104. All of the major projection systems project Yamamoto to hold an ERA between 3.40 and 3.54 this season.
Tigers vs Dodgers Prediction, Prop Betting Analysis: Tommy Edman
This will be an exciting matchup as Flaherty looks to keep his former side in check. Flaherty revived his career with an excellent 2024 season, and his stuff looked solid in Spring Training, which suggests he could author another strong campaign this season.
Tommy Edman is yet to face Flaherty in his career, but Flaherty should provide a tough matchup for the Dodgers center fielder. Tonight's prediction will be centered around Edman, who held a batting average of just .181 versus right-handed pitching in 2024 and struck out 20.4% of the time with a hard-hit rate of 31.7%.
Pick: Tommy Edman Under 0.5 Hits +145 (Draftkings, Play to +135)
Moneyline
Though Yamamoto should prove to be one of the league's better pitchers this season, the Dodgers chances of moving to 4-0 look to be well accounted for given their -225 price tag in this game. I don't see value in betting either side.
Run Line (Spread)
As noted, the sides on this game look to be priced accurately and I have no bet on the run line.
Over/Under
Betting the game to feature under 7.5 runs looks to hold some value, as two excellent starters will battle in pitcher-friendly conditions. At the current price of -125, the under would be my lean. However, I see more value in backing Edman to record zero hits.
Tigers vs Dodgers Same-Game Parlay
- Tommy Edman Under 0.5 Hits +145
- Under 7.5 Runs -125
- Jack Flaherty Under 2.5 Runs Allowed -125
Parlay Odds: +425 (bet365)
All three legs revolve around a solid outing from Flaherty, who looks poised for a big season. While Flaherty should have a good chance of keeping the Dodgers offense somewhat in check, the Tigers could struggle to find much success versus an elite pitcher in Yamamoto.
