The Betting Insider’s Mets vs Brewers Preview
Senga enters at 7–3 with a 2.31 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 86 strikeouts in 89 2/3 innings over 17 starts. He was untouchable earlier this season before landing on the injured list, leading all of baseball with a 1.47 ERA through his first 13 outings. However, since returning from the IL, he has looked more human, giving up 11 runs over his last 12 innings.
The stuff is still there, but his command will need to sharpen to navigate a Brewers lineup that has been seeing the ball well. His signature fork-ball remains one of the nastiest pitches in the league, generating a 42% whiff rate and holding opponents to a ridiculous .111 batting average. That pitch, paired with his ability to mix in a cutter, four-seam fastball, and slider, allows him to attack hitters in multiple ways.
Woodruff, on the other hand, is in peak form. Since returning from shoulder surgery, he’s been flawless, posting a 3–0 record with a 2.22 ERA, 0.64 WHIP, and 37 strikeouts in just 28 1/3 innings across five starts. All but one outing has been a quality start, and he’s holding hitters to one of the lowest on-base averages in baseball since his return.
Woodruff leans heavily on a three-pitch combination that features a mid-to-high 90’s fastball, a sinker, and a devastating changeup that has generated a 43% whiff rate and held batters to a 0.53 batting average. He commands all three pitches exceptionally well, attacking the strike zone early and forcing hitters into defensive swings.
The Mets have been the league’s worst offense over the last month, ranking dead last in batting average, OPS, and wRC+, setting the stage for yet another quality start from Woodruff. He has also been lights out at American Family Field throughout his career, and his recent dominance suggests that trend isn’t slowing down.
