Giants vs Orioles MLB Betting Preview
Colton Cowser has had a slow start to the season, but I think he bounces back on Friday.
Cowser has a good matchup against the Giants' starting pitcher, Landen Roupp, who has started the season well, but I’m expecting some regression from him.
Cowser is a platoon-specific hitter. You want to back him against right-handed pitching. He’s about a 5% above-average hitter against righties but about 15% below-average against lefties.
Roupp is a right-handed sinkerballer who, as a result, runs a high ground-ball rate. But he’s running a 63% ground-ball rate through his first two starts this season, and I fully expect that to regress.
Meanwhile, Cowser is due for some positive regression. He has a 64-point difference between his Expected Batting Average and actual Batting Average, and an 113-point difference between his Expected Slugging and actual Slugging.
Roupp throws three other pitches to lefties: a changeup, a curveball, and a cutter. Cowser hits all three pitches well.
Ultimately, we’re getting a solid price on Cowser because of his slow start and lack of name recognition.
