Pacers vs. Clippers Preview
It's Trade Deadline Day in the NBA, and as of this writing, neither the Pacers nor the Clippers have been involved. The Pacers were one of the biggest winners of last year's trade deadline when they acquired forward Pascal Siakam. The trade helped them reach the Eastern Conference Finals last season, and this season Siakam is averaging 20.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
Indiana's long-term goal was to pair Siakam with its mercurial franchise point guard Tyrese Haliburton. After consecutive games of 28 and 30 points against San Antonio and Detroit and a go-ahead 3 against Utah, Haliburton is coming off a scoreless outing in 25 minutes against Portland. Games of that nature have not been out of the norm for Haliburton this season, but he has also shown the propensity to bounce back the following game. He is averaging 17.9 points and 8.5 assists per game this season.
Still, the Pacers have been one of the league's best teams since the turn of the calendar year. They have won 12 of their last 15 games and rank in the top 10 in offensive, defensive, and net ratings. Tonight, they will take on the Clippers, who rank second in defensive rating and eighth in net rating over their last 15 games. However, they have won just eight of those games.
The Clippers enter this game a half-game up on the Timberwolves for the sixth seed in the Western Conference. They will be looking to bounce back after a blowout loss to their crosstown rival. Los Angeles got another strong performance from Norman Powell, who has now scored 20 points in nine games. He has flirted with 20 points against Indiana, scoring 19 points in four of the last five meetings and 20 points in two of them.
James Harden did not shoot the ball well against the Lakers, going just 2-for-12 from the field, but he did have nine assists. Harden is sixth in the league in assists at 8.4 per game and comes in at just a tick behind Haliburton.

Pacers vs. Clippers Prediction
With both teams coming off blowout losses, motivation should be high for both to bounce back. If tonight's game is a battle, that will give more value to the underdog, particularly when its the team that enters this matchup playing better. The Pacers are 11-9 against the spread as an underdog and 9-6 ATS as a road underdog. They have also covered three of the last five meetings against the Clippers, winning all three games outright as well.
While those trends may hold true tonight, Haliburton bouncing back after a rough performance is another one that help the Pacers cover tonight. Tonight, I expect his impact to be greater as a facilitator, particularly in setting up Siakam and Myles Turner. Siakam has scored 20 points in seven of his last 10 games and in each of his last five games against the Clippers. Meanwhile, Turner has 58 points in his last two games against the Clippers. He has knocked down six 3s in those two games and made two 3s in seven straight games.
I like Powell to extend his streak to 10 consecutive games with 20 points, with a few assists from Harden. The Clippers floor general has eight assists in eight of his last nine games and in seven of his last nine against the Pacers.
Best Bet: Pacers +5.5 (-112, FanDuel)
