Phoenix Suns vs Chicago Bulls NBA Preview

The Phoenix Suns have a strong case for being the NBA's most disappointing team this season. That continued on Thursday when they lost 120-109 to a Spurs team missing Victor Wembanyama. They have now lost four straight and eight of their last 10 games. Over that 10-game stretch, Phoenix ranks 20th or below in offensive rating, defensive rating and net rating. Yet, they still enter today's game favored on the road.

The Bulls enter this game having lost five straight games, four of which were by 15 points or more. They began to pivot at the trade deadline, shipping out Zach LaVine while giving more minutes to younger players like Matas Buzelis.

However, they were unable to move Nikola Vucevic. The veteran big man had 21 points and nine rebounds against the Knicks on Thursday. The Bulls nearly pulled off an upset in a 113-111 loss in New York but did cover as a double-digit underdog.

In that game, Josh Giddey had 27 points and 16 rebounds. It was his 16th double-double of the season and he has been known for flirting with triple-doubles as well with 13 in his career. He is +250 for a double-double and +1900 for a triple-double today and he has a solid matchup.

Meanwhile, the Suns will turn to Kevin Durant and Devin Booker to snap their losing streak. Durant recently became the eighth member of the 30,000-point club and is averaging 27.2 points per game. In his last game against the Bulls, he scored 43 points and made the game-winning basket as the Suns rallied from 23 points down.

Booker, on the other hand, has scored just 17 points in each of his last two games, but he has enjoyed facing the Bulls. He has scored 28 points in four of the last meetings, going over 30 in three of them. Booker has also recorded eight assists in six of his last 10 games. While he will set up Durant tonight, do not sleep on Royce O'Neale as well.

The swingman scored 27 points on 10-of-16 from the field and 6-of-12 from three against the Spurs. He actually led the Suns in field goal attempts in that game. That may not happen again, but he has made three triples or more in seven consecutive games.

Josh Giddey enters today's game, having scored 10 points in 13 consecutive games. In that span, he is averaging 16.2 points and 7.3  rebounds per game. Lately, he has gotten to benefit from the departure of LaVine and uneven usage for Coby White, who has scored just 23 points in his last three games.

Meanwhile, the Suns are 28th in points allowed and 29th in rebounds allowed to point guards. They just gave up nine rebounds to De'Aaron Fox and 10 rebounds to Stephon Castle.

Giddey averages more rebounds per game than either of them and if he flirts with a double-double, he will likely go over his points and rebounds line as well. Giddey has recorded 22 PR in five of his last eight games with 43 against the Knicks.

In addition to Giddey, I like Vucevic to factor in on the glass as well. He has recorded nine rebounds in eight of his last 10 games. He has recorded 25 PR in four of his last six games against the Suns, including 26 points and six rebounds and 19 points and 17 rebounds in the two meetings last season.

For the Suns, if Kevin Durant is healthy, he is going to flirt with 25 points. He has scored 25 in 26-of-42 games this season and landed between 20 and 24 points in several others. He has also scored 25 points in seven of his last eight games against the Bulls.

I also like O'Neale to supply the Suns offense from beyond the arc. Clearing his threes line in seven straight games, he gets a Bulls defense that is 17th in threes per game this season.
