Bradley vs St. Bonaventure College Basketball Betting Preview
Bradley Basketball
Bradley has a lot to prove. The Braves held their hats on shooting the past two seasons, ranking in the top 20 in 3-point percentage. Duke Deen, Almar Atlason and Christian Davis each shot better than 38% from deep, and they're all gone.
Deen was so important to Bradley. He was the type of player you feel good about having the ball in his hands deep in the shot clock, so that's something Bradley will have to find a replacement for.
Alex Huibregtse is a proven sniper from his Wright State days, and he could be option No. 1 in Peoria. The question is: Can Demarion Burch and Jaquan Johnson take on bigger roles and shoot well? And also, who can replace Atlason's shooting at the four?
From a pace perspective, the Braves will look to slow it down. This is Brian Wardle's 10th season as Bradley's head coach, and it finished inside the top 200 in adjusted tempo just once. Everything comes down to executing in the half-court, just like it will for the Bonnies.
The Braves have a solid interior, even if the shooting doesn't come around. Ahmet Jonovic is big and can provide rim protection and Corey Thomas could blossom, but they certainly lost offensive pop at the forward spots with Davis and Atlason leaving.
Bradley is arguably the favorite to win the Missouri Valley, but this is a very difficult opening-season matchup for it.
St. Bonaventure Basketball
St. Bonaventure feels like a more well-rounded squad in 2025-26. The Bonnies, who basically had no bench last season, went out and brought in more depth.
The Bonnies had a brutal offense last season; they shot 31% from deep and finished 203rd in KenPom's offensive efficiency.
That'll change this year with newcomers Darryl Simmons II, Amar'e Marshall and international guard Achille Lonati. Simmons is diminutive, but he'll pair nicely with Dasonte Bowen. He can erupt for a 20+ point game with ease and change the game's tenor.
Defensively, I'm not very sold on the Bonnies, and that's my one drawback here. I expect Division II transfer Cayden Charles to add perimeter defense, and he looks like an integral part of the Bonnies' attack in exhibitions.
Plus, bigs Joe Grahovac and Daniel Egbuniwe and double-double machine Frank Mitchell will help. It'll be important for the interior defense to be good if Simmons and Bowen's lack of size gets exposed. That could be more of a worry for conference play, though.
The grouping of Bowen, Lonati, Simmons and Marshall gives the Bonnies one of the better guard groupings it's had in years.
I get why KenPom is lower on the Bonnies. They lose Melvin Council Jr., Lajae Jones, Noel Brown and Jonah Hinton. All four played pretty big roles and Council provided so much defensive stability. But I'd put St. Bonaventure on a shortlist of the most undervalued teams early in the new season.
Bradley vs. St. Bonaventure Betting Analysis
I'm rolling with the Bonnies. Both teams lost a lot, but I think St. Bonaventure is a little too undervalued here. I view it as a top-100 team, and it's too far out of the top 100 in KenPom's preseason rankings.
We also know a little more about where the Bonnies' scoring is coming from compared to Bradley. Simmons could be the No. 1 guy, but Lonati, Marshall and Bowen can all get buckets.
The key for St. Bonaventure will be containing the lengthy Bradley interior, as Thomas and Jonovic add a lot inside.
The Bonnies' starting five-man is Mitchell, who's a better player than Jonovic, but he's giving up about six inches.
I think the difference will be limiting Thomas. He has all the tools to be a monster player in the Valley, and the Bonnies' biggest question mark is at the four. If they can contain Thomas, they'll be in good shape.
My Pick: St. Bonaventure ML +105
