Creighton Basketball

The Jays are just 241st in defensive possession length, and Nebraska’s offensive flow should prevent Creighton from dictating tempo.

Even more importantly, the Huskers take 52.2% of their shot attempts from 3, and while Creighton defends the arc fairly well, its perimeter numbers slip on the road, and it rarely generate turnovers.

It's also worth noting that Creighton has struggled defensively going up against decent competition thus far. I also don't like the fact that the Bluejays are a slow-tempo offense, which is going to work against them against a stingy Huskers defense.

Nebraska is one of the safest ball-security teams in the country, which means Creighton likely won’t get the easy transition points it leans on when its offense struggles.

When Creighton has the ball, the matchup tilts even further toward Nebraska.

While Creighton’s offense has strong talent, Nebraska’s defense is built exactly the way you want when facing a perimeter-heavy team. The Bluejays get 43.3% of their total points from 3 (third nationally) and attempt over half of their field goals from deep, but Nebraska quietly owns a top-50 perimeter defense.

That combination limits Creighton’s preferred scoring identity. Inside the arc, Creighton shoots it well.

Still, the Jays are running into a Nebraska defense that is much more physical than people realize and rarely puts opponents on the line. The Jays already don’t draw fouls, and facing one of the most disciplined defenses in the country lowers their margin for error.

Nebraska Basketball

Nebraska enters this in-state rivalry game playing some of the most efficient basketball in the country, and the metrics suggest this is an ideal spot to back the Huskers at home. When Nebraska has the ball, its offensive profile matches up exceptionally well with Creighton’s defensive weaknesses.

The Huskers rank 54th in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency and an elite 30th in effective field goal percentage (57%), driven by a top-15 2-point percentage nationally.

Creighton’s defense is solid overall, but its biggest flaw is that it allows opponents to get very comfortable inside the arc, ranking 99th in defensive 2-point percentage and 98th in effective field goal percentage allowed.

Nebraska’s ability to generate high-quality looks in the paint is an issue for the Jays. Nebraska also plays with a high tempo, which matters because Creighton’s defensive numbers take a step backward when forced into quicker possessions.

The Huskers score a massive 39.8% of their points from 3, while Creighton’s offense is overly reliant on its perimeter efficiency.

If the Huskers defend the arc as well as the metrics suggest, Creighton has no complementary scoring outlet, especially since Nebraska is top-100 in defensive rebounding and forces mid-range attempts.

Creighton vs. Nebraska Betting Analysis

Pair that with Nebraska’s massive experience edge and the fact that Pinnacle Bank Arena is one of the most underrated home-court advantages in the Big Ten, and you have a matchup that leans heavily in the Huskers' favor.

Simply put, Nebraska’s strengths attack Creighton's weaknesses. Meanwhile, the Bluejays are much more one-dimensional offensively than the market gives them credit for, and their lack of rim pressure or free-throw generation becomes a real problem against a team built like Nebraska.

With the Huskers holding advantages on both ends and getting a significant home-court boost, this line is too short for me.

The Jays have not impressed me and clearly miss Ryan Kalkbrenner's presence.

My Pick: Nebraska -6.5
