If you look at Duke and its remaining schedule, it's potentially a two-loss team heading into the ACC Tournament — and one was a letdown three-point defeat to the Tar Heels, with the other coming by a point.
Two losses by a combined four points isn't so bad.
It's hard to argue that Duke isn't the best team in the country, and no matter what happens for the remainder of the regular season (and conference tournament), the Blue Devils will be a No. 1 seed in the Big Dance.
However, this spot isn't necessarily the best. The Blue Devils have a revenge game on Saturday against North Carolina on tap, and their talent gap is wide enough here to be able to win this game easily.
But this road environment could provide a sufficient test, especially from a team that sits on the bubble.
A win against the top team in the land can help NC State's resume, especially after the Wolfpack have dropped four of their last five games, and not in close fashion.
NC State Basketball
NC State was in pretty good shape for a postseason berth, but 18-6 has quickly fallen to 19-10. In two of its last four losses, it lost by at least 29 points.
The Wolfpack rank in the top 47 in both offensive and defensive adjusted efficiency, but they're not nearly as good in those categories as Duke.
While Duke plays at a more controlled pace — ranking 111th in average possession length — the Wolfpack rank 52nd.
For them to be able to compete in this game, they'll need to dictate the pace and flow. But that's easier said than done when playing against a Duke team that's won by at least 13 points in its last six games against everyone not named Michigan,
The biggest issue for this NC State team is its effective field goal percentage defense. It ranks outside the 200, and in that same breath, it sits outside the top 200 in guarding the 3-pointer.
If its offense can’t keep the pace, it can have a real issue making this a game.
Duke vs. NC State Betting Analysis
This is a potential lookahead spot for the Blue Devils. However, Duke has absolutely steamrolled its opponents this season, as 22 of its 27 wins have come by at least 11 points.
And as bad as I want to take the points, I can’t get behind NC State. It's literally in its worst form of the season. While the Wolfpack have lost just once by double digits at home, this Duke team presents major issues, matchup-wise.
Duke runs away with this game rather easily.
