My Iowa State vs Arizona College Basketball Betting Preview
As the calendar flipped from 2024 to 2025, Arizona was considered by some as one of the most disappointing teams in the nation.
The Wildcats allowed 103 points to Wisconsin, had multiple shaky performances in the Battle 4 Atlantis and Caleb Love was ice cold.
But fast forward to the present, and Tommy Lloyd's bunch has won nine of its last 10 and sits one game back of Houston at the top of the Big 12 standings.
Also tied for second is the Wildcats' opponent on Monday — Iowa State — making this an elite, must-see Monday night college basketball matchup.
So, how am I betting this game? Well, I'm not going to shy away from the Wildcats at home.
It's not just the home-court advantage that gives the Cats the edge, though — it's also the matchup advantages.
First, Iowa State does a great job of scoring off of offensive rebounds (34th in Haslametrics in converting second-chance opportunities), but Arizona does a great job of limiting those chances (22nd in Haslametrics in preventing second-chance opportunities).
Secondly, Iowa State capitalizes off turnovers, turning those giveaways into easy points. However, the Wildcats aren't flimsy with the basketball (11.3 giveaways per game).
Meanwhile, Iowa State is still without Milan Momcilovic, who had surgery on his hand, and there's no timetable for his return.
The Clones have been impressive even without their fourth-leading scorer — which says a lot about Curtis Jones, Keshon Gilbert and the team's overall depth — but Momcilovic's shooting (44.3% from 3) was missed greatly in their road loss to West Virginia. In that game, Iowa State shot 1-of-17 from deep.
Love also needs to outplay Jones for the Wildcats to cover, and the fifth-year senior is due for a big outing after shooting poorly in three of his last four games, including an ugly 3-of-14 game against Colorado last time out.
With the McKale Center rocking, the Wildcats potentially limiting what the Cyclones do best and Momcilovic on the sidelines, I'm expecting Arizona to pull out a win.
