Iowa State vs Utah NCAAB Preview
I project 147.5 points for this Big 12 battle, so I’m willing to bet the Over at 144.5 or better, representing a minimum three-point difference between my projection and the market.
Everyone likes to swoon over Iowa State’s defense, but the Cyclones boast a legit top-20 offense. Tamin Lipsey is a legit point guard, while Joshua Jefferson has evolved into one of the nation’s best two-way players — combined, those two are averaging over 30 points and 10 assists per game.
The 2026 Cyclones can spread the floor and shoot better than past versions. They’re also very efficient in transition, which should prove important against Utah’s porous transition defense (1.13 PPP allowed, 15th percentile).
Iowa State vs Utah College Basketball Pick
All in all, I expect Iowa State to go bananas against the Utes’ defense, which ranks 140th nationally in my power ratings.
It’s hard to imagine the Utes’ ball-screen-centric offense scoring efficiently against Iowa State’s ball-screen-blitzing defense, but Terrance Brown has been fine navigating traps out of the pick-and-roll, and Utah has some weak-side shooting options that could nail a few triples against the Cyclones’ over-rotating defense.
My Pick: Over 144.5 or Better
