Nebraska Cornhuskers Betting Preview
In what's been an unbelievably impressive season for the Cornhuskers, head coach Fred Hoiberg is well on his way to leading his Nebraska bunch to a second NCAA Tournament appearance in his seven-year tenure in Lincoln.
Leading the charge for Nebraska’s offense is 6-foot-7 junior forward Pryce Sandfort, who's posting nearly 18 points per game. The Iowa transfer is posting nearly four 3-pointers per game and is converting at a phenomenal 40% clip from beyond the arc.
Sandfort is at the heart of an elite Nebraska frontcourt, which also features Rienk Mast, who's having a breakout senior season of his own. He's posting 14 points per game, while also recording over six rebounds on average.
Freshman Braden Frager has also been thriving on both ends of the floor.
But while the Cornhuskers' offense has been rather impressive this season (scoring nearly 80 points per game), Hoiberg’s defense has been the far better unit. The Huskers are allowing just 65 points per game, while ranking fifth nationally in defensive efficiency, per KenPom.
The three aforementioned Cornhuskers forwards have all been stellar rim protectors for a stout defensive frontcourt.
Nebraska’s guards have also been excellent on the defensive end of the floor. Jamarques Lawrence has been an exceptional high-pressure defender, often picking up opposing guards in the full-court.
Hoiberg spent some time coaching in the NBA prior to accepting the Cornhusker job, and specialized in defensive schematics while on the Chicago Bulls' coaching staff.
Hoiberg’s “no-middle” defense forces the ball to the sidelines and corners, taking away the paint and also forcing its opponents into difficult highly-contested shots.
He also frequently implements defensive sets designed to take away the opponent's best scorer by mapping out the player’s favorite spots on the floor. Hoiberg’s son — Sam — runs the point for Nebraska and has been a massive presence defensively.
UCLA Bruins Betting Preview
In Mick Cronin’s seventh season at the helm, his Bruins are in great shape to make a fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in his tenure.
In one of the biggest moves in the transfer portal this offseason, Cronin landed former Lobos guard Donovan Dent. The 6-foot-2 senior point guard was one of the best two-way players in the entire country last season playing for Richard Pitino at New Mexico.
Prior to the 2025-26 season, Dent was one of the favorites to win the Naismith Award, which is given to the best player in college basketball.
While Dent had been somewhat of a disappointment for the first half of his senior season, he's finally turned it on for UCLA, having just scored 30 in the team’s last contest.
The Bruins’ star point guard is posting 14 points per game this season, while dishing over seven assists on average (sixth nationally).
The emergence of Tyler Bilodeau has been vital to UCLA's success. Bilodeau is scoring 18 points per game, while also recording nearly six rebounds on average.
UCLA's offense is scoring 78 points per game this season, while ranking 38th in the nation in offensive efficiency, per KenPom, largely due to the offensive contributions of Dent and Bilodeau.
On the other end of the floor, the Bruins' defense has been rather impressive, allowing its opponents to score 71 points per game.
UCLA ranks inside the top 50 in the country in defensive efficiency rating, and will certainly need a great defensive effort to prevail over a top-15 team.
Nebraska vs UCLA College Basketball Pick
Both Nebraska and UCLA have impressed on both ends of the floor, and I would be surprised if we don't see a very closely-contested matchup.
The Bruins have a great opportunity to win a fourth consecutive contest, but they're met with arguably their toughest defensive matchup of the season, as the Cornhuskers boast a top-five defensive unit.
While Hoiberg’s Nebraska bunch has been unbelievably impressive this season, it's tough to fade UCLA on its home floor. The Bruins have one of the strongest home court advantages in all of college basketball, having defeated two of the Big Ten’s toughest opponents in Purdue and Illinois there.
In addition to UCLA’s home edge, this matchup holds far more importance for the Bruins who, while very likely to receive a tournament bid, definitely have some work to do prior to the end of the regular season.
