Purdue vs Indiana Betting Preview
Purdue Basketball
Purdue comes into the matchup at 17-3 overall and 7-2 in the Big Ten after its loss to Illinois. The Boilermakers have dropped two in a row due to defensive struggles.
You may see that UCLA scored only 69 points in its upset victory over Purdue, but that wasn't because the Bruins missed shots.
UCLA shot 57% from the field and 45% from 3 in the upset win. Meanwhile, Illinois shot 48% from the field and 47% from deep in its win, with Keaton Wagler scoring 46 points on 13-of-17 from the field (9-of-11 from 3).
As poorly as Purdue has played defensively, it still boasts the second-best offense in conference play.
Braden Smith had arguably the best performance a point guard has had this year in the loss to Illinois, scoring 27 points and recording 12 assists to one turnover.
Smith rolled his ankle in the loss but came back in quickly after and will continue to be an efficient offensive playmaker against an Indiana defense that struggles to defend.
Indiana Basketball
Not often does a game go exactly as I want it to go. Indiana's 82-59 win at Rutgers was one of the few times that has happened, snapping the Hoosiers' four-game losing streak.
Lamar Wilkerson and Tucker DeVries finally got back on track, while Nick Dorn put up 23 points.
Indiana now sits at 13-7 overall and 4-5 in the Big Ten as Purdue comes to town.
The win over Rutgers was the first time Indiana has scored over 80 points since its 84-66 win over Maryland on Jan. 7.
Even though the offense took a dip during the four-game losing streak, Indiana still ranks second in 3-point percentage and third in 2-point percentage in conference play.
Fletcher Loyer has to get it going for Purdue, and this is a matchup where I think he finds himself. Loyer has struggled shooting the 3 in five of his last six games, going 7-of-27 (26%) from beyond the arc over that stretch.
With Smith's ability to snake ball screens to find the roller and look for his own shot, Indiana will have to focus on the middle of the floor throughout the game, leading to open skip passes from Smith to Loyer, who will find his rhythm from deep.
Purdue vs. Indiana Betting Analysis
I love the over in this game on Tuesday night.
Purdue has the second-best offense in conference play, and Indiana has the fifth-best.
Both offenses sit in the top three in 2-point percentage, while both defenses are near the bottom in defending 2-point baskets.
Smith will continue generating points by scoring and facilitating, while Indiana's leading scorers look to remain aggressive after their impressive performance at Rutgers.
Pick: Over 151.5
