UCLA vs Oregon NCAAB Game Preview

UCLA Bruins

Is Mick Cronin still alive?

Every time I see a clip of him from a press conference, I think his team is putting him into an early grave.

UCLA is 14-6 on the season and 6-3 in the Big Ten, with back-to-back wins against Purdue and Northwestern.

The Bruins have one of the best 3-point defenses in conference play, holding opponents to 28.8%.

6-foot-9 forward Tyler Bilodeau has had a big season so far, averaging 18.2 points per game. He was the hero against Purdue, hitting the game-winning triple.

The real question is: Has Donovan Dent finally turned the corner?

I'm not sure if Dent started the season with the yips every time he shot a 3, but in the last three games, he's made at least one and is 4-of-8 overall from downtown. In the first 15 games, Dent made two 3s — two.

UCLA is facing one of the worst 3-point defenses in the conference, so maybe Dent can continue to shoot the ball with confidence and make it four straight games with a made trey.

Oregon Ducks

Injuries have helped derail this season for Oregon.

The Ducks have lost six straight and sit at 8-12 overall and 1-8 in the conference. The one win came against Maryland, which has been arguably even worse this season.

As I write this preview, Nate Bittle and Jackson Shelstad are still expected to be out.

Takai Simpkins has stepped up in Shelstad's absence, scoring in double figures in four out of the last five games. Meanwhile, Sean Stewart has had a scoring bump with Bittle out, averaging 14 points in the last three games.

Even with Simpkins and Stewart stepping up, the Ducks have the worst offense in conference play.

They struggle to score around the basket, turn the ball over and can't make their free throws.

If they want to pull off this upset, they'll need to win the rebounding margin and take care of the basketball — two things they've struggled with this season.

UCLA vs. Oregon Betting Analysis

I've gone back and forth on what I like on this game.

On one hand, Oregon surely wins another conference game, and on the other hand, if UCLA loses this game, Cronin might need 24-hour surveillance.

At the end of the day, this Oregon team is too banged up.

UCLA has won four out of five and now have Dent showing promise with his scoring.

Oregon will continue to struggle scoring the basketball while it struggles to defend UCLA's actions.

My Pick: UCLA -4.5
