The Maryland Terrapins enter the 2025 football season with a lot to prove after finishing 17th in the B1G 18. The team finished 4-8 overall, leaving much more to be desired by the fans. 

The Terrapins begin the season with a game against the Florida Atlantic Owls on August 30th at noon, followed by the Northern Illinois Huskies on September 5th.

Maryland will once again be an underdog to win the Big Ten. However, Maryland should continue its steady progress under Coach Michael Locksley.

Maryland Terrapins Point Spreads

The Big Ten is even more competitive now that the conference has expanded. If you think the Terrapins are going to perform well but winning the game outright is a bridge too far, consider betting on their point spreads.

Point spreads are a type of wager in which the underdog (plus odds) only has to keep the score within a certain margin to win the bet. For example:

• Maryland +27.5 (-110)
• Penn State -27.5 (-110)

If Maryland loses 35-10, it still wins against the spread (ATS) because it lost by fewer than 27.5 points. Penn State needs to win by 28 or more to “cover” its side of the spread.

Maryland Terrapins Over/Unders

Another common bet is an over/under, or total, bet. With this type of bet, you’re wagering not on how well the Terrapins do against their opponent, but on the total number of points scored in the contest.

For example, if books set the total for the game against Penn State at 53, and the final score is 35-19, over bettors win since the combined score (54) is over the total. For the under to win, 52 or fewer combined points would be needed. Notice I didn’t say which team had 35 and which had 19 — with totals bets, it doesn’t matter.

Maryland Terrapins Moneylines

Moneylines are bets one can make on which team will win the game outright. Why would somebody bet on the Terrapins moneyline against, say, Ohio State? Well, to account for the relative likelihood of either team to win the game, oddsmakers adjust the payouts to be more for the underdog (plus odds) and less for the favored (minus odds) teams.

The Terrapins might be +950 underdogs against OSU, meaning a $100 bet would pay a $950 profit if Maryland won. Betting on a -950 favorite against Maryland means you’d need to put $950 on the line to get a $100 profit in return.

Proposition, or prop, bets are wagers on how one player will do in a game. For example, you could bet over or under on the passing yards, rushing yards, completions, and much more for whoever wins Maryland's quarterback battle.
