Wildcats 2025 Schedule & Betting Odds
Northwestern's 2025 campaign will represent the third season of the David Braun era, as the head coach replaced Pat Fitzgerald in the 2023 season due to a hazing scandal that ultimately resulted in the dismissal of the long-time Wildcats' head coach.
After a surprisingly good season for the 'Cats in 2023, where they compiled an 8-5 record after most pundits were predicting a sub-.500 season, Northwestern came back down to earth last year with a 4-8 record.
Las Vegas is expecting more of the same, as the 'Cats win total sits at 3.5 heading into ther 2025-2026 season.
In the last six years, Northwestern has made two trips to the Big Ten Championship game and has posted three seasons with four or fewer wins. Go figure.
Here’s how you can bet on Northwestern this season, and some key things to know.
Betting on Northwestern
There are a host of ways to bet on Northwestern in the 2024 season, and the Wildcats reside in a legal state for sports betting, Illinois. However, you are not currently able to bet on Illinois college teams if you are within the state.
Nonetheless, there are a variety of ways to bet on Northwestern if you are not in Illinois, including point spreads, moneylines, over/unders, futures and more. If you like a long shot, you can even consider a Northwestern player to win the Heisman Trophy.
Betting Northwestern's Point Spreads
The 'Cats will be consistently listed as underdogs throughout Big Ten conference play. Bettors will have plenty of chances to bet on them as underdogs. Here's how a point spread works - let's say the 'Cats are listed as +6.5 against Purdue. This means the Wildcats are 6.5 point underdogs against the Boilermakers.
If the Wildcats lose by 6 or less, or win outright, they will have "covered" the spread.
Northwestern Wildcats Moneylines
Moneylines are just bets on the winner of the game. Moneylines bets pay out less to the favorite (minus odds) and more to the underdog (plus odds).
As -112 favorites against Iowa, for example, a bettor would need to stake $112 in order to potentially win $100. However, as a +245 underdog to Wisconsin, a $100 bet paid $245 when Northwestern pulled off the upset.
Northwestern Wildcats Props
Player props are bets on the stat lines for individual (usually skill position) players, and you can take over or under a specific stat. Some Wildcats props you could bet on include QB passing yards, WR receptions, or RB touchdowns.
With that being said, the availability of college prop wagers differs in each state, so make sure to check your local rules to understand which markets may be available for you.
If sports betting isn’t legal in your state or college props aren’t offered, you can use a platform like PrizePicks. It’s regulated as DFS, and allows you to pick player statistics to be more or less than the listed total. You can tie more and more stats together for bigger payouts, and the regulations may allow different states to maintain different rules.
Northwestern Wildcats Futures
Sportsbooks are expecting minimal growth from the Wildcats this season, giving the team the 16th-best odds to win the Big Ten. This is an example of a futures bet, which is a wager that is decided by the entire season. Other futures bets you could place on the Wildcats in 2025 include over/under on season wins and odds for players to win various awards.
How to Bet on the Over/Under
One of the bigger betting markets in college football is the over/under, otherwise known as the total.
This market is based on how many points are scored in the game. If it is estimated by sportsbooks that 54 points will be scored in the contest, the over/under is set at 54. If Northwestern were to win 30-21, the game would hold 51 points and would thus go under the total, paying out wagers on the under.
Like with the point spread, there’s also a corresponding payout with the over and under. In this case, you must wager $1.15 for every $1 you want to win if you bet the over, and $1.05 for every $1 you want to win if you bet the under.
This vig, vigorish, or "juice" applies to every market.
