Hurricanes vs. Canadiens Preview

Carolina Hurricanes

There have been six or fewer total goals scored in four of the Carolina Hurricanes’ past six games, a trend that could continue Tuesday. Carolina is one of the best defensive teams in the league, largely due to its ability to suppress high-danger scoring chances.

Entering this matchup, the Hurricanes rank fifth in expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60). Supporting that defense is goaltender Brandon Bussi, who is slated to start Tuesday.

Now may be a good time to buy low on Bussi, who had been putting together a strong season before a recent dip in form. His larger body of work suggests he is better than his recent performances indicate.

Montreal Canadiens

Bussi could be in line for a bounce-back performance against the Montreal Canadiens, a team that has relied heavily on its power play for offense. That reliance could be an issue Tuesday, given that Carolina ranks ninth in penalty minutes taken per game.

At 5-on-5, Montreal ranks in the bottom half of the league in expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60). The Canadiens, however, can lean on their goaltending to stay competitive.

Jakub Dobes is expected to start and will look to continue his strong play. Dobes has allowed three or fewer goals in each of his past five starts, posting a 3-2 record with a .917 save percentage and a 2.20 goals-against average during that stretch.

Hurricanes vs. Canadiens Prediction

Like Carolina, Montreal has been involved in several low-scoring games recently. There have been six or fewer total goals scored in five of the Canadiens’ past seven games, with Dobes playing a key role in that trend.

While Carolina has a capable offense, Dobes has handled strong opponents well in recent outings, making the under worth consideration.

Pick: Under 6.5 (-113 at Kalshi | Play to -120)
