Fever vs. Mystics Preview
The struggling Fever and Mystics are set to clash in the nation’s capital, looking to regain momentum after uneven starts to the season.
Indiana has dropped three of four since a three-game winning streak, most recently falling 83-75 to the championship-favorite Liberty in New York on Saturday after getting outscored by 11 points in the fourth quarter.
That loss dropped the Fever to 1-3 on the road this season. Indiana has failed to reach 90 points in any of its last four games after opening the year as one of the league’s highest-scoring teams.
The Fever are led by a three-headed monster in guards Kelsey Mitchell (21.1 PPG) and Caitlin Clark (18.7 PPG, 8.2 APG), plus center Aliyah Boston (15.9 PPG, 7.5 RPG).
Clark, currently second on the odds board for WNBA Most Valuable Player, is probable for this game with a back injury, while Boston is questionable with a leg issue. Mitchell, the reigning All-WNBA first-team choice, may have some extra offensive responsibility.
Washington has alternated wins and losses over its last five games and has only reached 90 points once in its last six contests. The youthful Mystics suffered their worst defeat of the season Saturday, getting embarrassed in Atlanta 109-77. Head coach Sydney Johnson was ejected and escorted off the court by police late in the third quarter.
The lone bright spot of the loss was the return of leading scorer Sonia Citron, who had 18 points and six assists after missing one game with a foot injury.
Citron (17.8 PPG), Shakira Austin (16 PPG, 8.2 RPG) and Kiki Iriafen (16 PPG, 9.7 RPG) pace Washington’s offense. Citron and Iriafen are second-year standouts coming off All-Star rookie campaigns and All-Rookie Team selections.
These teams met nearly a month ago in a wildly entertaining 104-102 Washington win in overtime at Indiana. The Fever forced extra time by outscoring the Mystics 31-22 in the final stanza of regulation, capped by Clark’s 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds remaining to even the game at 89.
Citron erupted for 30 points and Iriafen added 25 and 13 rebounds, while Clark netted 17 of her game-high 32 points in the fourth quarter. Mitchell chipped in 24 but missed two free throws in the last minute of overtime before coming up short on a potential game-tying jumper at the buzzer. Boston left the game late in the third frame with a leg injury.

Fever vs. Mystics Prediction
Injury concerns add some volatility to this total, particularly with Aliyah Boston questionable, but our best bet for the game still skews to the over 170.5 total points based on the matchup profile.
This should be another tightly contested battle that comes down to the wire for a pair of teams that have admittedly struggled to score lately but have played their share of high-scoring affairs.
In May, Indiana and Washington combined for 206 points in their overtime meeting. Outside of that game, the Fever and Mystics have played a total of 17 games, with eight exceeding 171 points.
The Fever rank third in the WNBA with 89.2 points per game as compared to the Mystics’ 83.4 (10th). Both sit bottom-five in points allowed on average, with the Fever 11th (86.6) and the Mystics 13th (87.9).
An important contributing factor is these teams surrender more free throw attempts than anyone else in the league, creating additional scoring opportunities and helping drive up totals.
The market has already shown support for the over, with the number climbing from 168.5 at open. According to Action Pro data, more than 75% of both bets and money have backed the over.
Best Bet: Over 170.5 Points (-110)
