For today's matchup between the Angels and the Tigers, we have Jack Kochanowicz facing off against Keider Montero.
While the Angels project as my worst bullpen on today's slate—and the Tigers project closer to a league average unit—there is a specific angle I'm looking at regarding the starting pitchers.
Kyder Montero’s metrics have been falling essentially every single start. If you look at the trend line of his walk rate, it has tanked since April; the strikeout rate has continually dipped while the walk rate has continually climbed.
We’re now seeing his expected FIP and SIERA over his past five starts creeping into the 5.00 range, if not the mid-fives.
On the other side, Kochanowicz is not a guy I love, but he keeps the ball on the ground.

The difference here between ground ball rate and fly ball rate for these two starting pitchers heavily favors the Angels' offense over the first five innings.
