Mets vs Mariners MLB Betting Preview

The Mets are going to start Austin Warren as a right-handed opener ahead of left-handed bulk-man Sean Manaea. Warren's job is to neutralize the right-handed bats at the top of the Mariners order. He’ll probably come out after six outs or so, maybe even fewer than that. Behind him, Manaea has been pitching much better of late.

The critical factor for both teams tonight is bullpen health. Yesterday, the Mets piggybacked Noel McLean with David Peterson, while the Mariners piggybacked Bryce Miller with Luis Castillo. Because both coaching staffs successfully used length yesterday, both bullpens enter tonight's matchup extremely well-rested.

The environment is going to play a massive factor in keeping the score down tonight. Generally speaking, T-Mobile Park and Globe Life Field are the two most pitcher-friendly environments in baseball, playing about 15% below the major league average of a park like Yankee Stadium.

Given tonight's specific conditions, we can downgrade the park by another 4%. That means this environment will play roughly 20% below the major league average compared to a normal day.

When you watch games at T-Mobile Park, the strikeout rate is historically insane—clocking in at about 20% above the league average. Because of this, you see a massive amount of stranded base runners. Teams will get a runner on third with one out, or first and second with no outs, and a string of strikeouts completely kills the rally. It can be completely maddening to watch—just like the Mariners' postseason run last year.

The weather will only amplify this effect. It will feel pretty normal around game time, but the temperature will plunge as we reach the fourth, seventh, eighth, and ninth innings. It will get significantly harder to score as the game progresses.

If there is one area that concerns me, it’s Seattle's closer, Andres Munoz. He has been an absolute travesty when it comes to suppressing late-inning runs this season, and I honestly don't know what is going on with him. If this game is sitting at 3-2 or 4-3 in the ninth and Munoz comes out for the save, you are going to be sweating it out because he has been a horrible watch to this point.

Mets vs Mariners Pick, Betting Analysis

I make this true total at 6.4, so there is still plenty of value even though the market has already moved this line down from 7.5 to 7. I am entirely comfortable locking in the current line.

I am betting the full-game Under 7 to -120. I would also heavily consider keeping an eye on a live betting angle. If the game is tied 2-2 in the fifth inning when Manaea takes over and the live total bumps up to 7.5, that is your cue to jump back into the market.

Pick: Under 7 | Play Live Under Up to 7.5
