Georgetown vs Marquette College Basketball Betting Preview
Georgetown Basketball
Georgetown comes in with at least two wins that are better than anything Marquette has to offer, but its last five games have been a struggle, with three losses in five tries to Dayton, Miami and North Carolina.
The Hoyas followed that up with a lackluster overtime win against Saint Peter's.
The best thing Georgetown does is protect the ball; it ranks second in the country in offensive turnovers. The Hoyas also rank in the top 35 in terms of unforced turnovers.
They're expected to be missing Vince Iwuchukwu still, but the Hoyas still have KJ Lewis, Malik Mack, Caleb Williams and Julius Halaifonua, a slew of double-digit scorers.
Their style has leaned heavily on backcourt play, and that may be part in their recent struggles. They rank 241st in effective field goal percentage.
Marquette Basketball
Some teams are still a question mark at this point in the season, but other teams have given us plenty of information. Marquette is one of those teams. The Golden Eagles' strength of schedule isn't terrible (126th nationally), but their wins and losses have alternated between good and bad teams.
In the simplest terms, they beat the bad teams and lose to the good teams. The Golden Eagles have six losses on the season, all to teams that rank 100 or better in KenPom. Their five wins haven't come against any team rated higher than 200.
On the other hand, their metrics are a little bit harder to interpret. They do play fast, but that's been against bad teams or against good teams when that opponent has a sizable lead (that, of course, leads to quicker possessions to try to cut into the deficit).
Georgetown vs. Marquette Betting Analysis
The Hoyas should probably be a little closer to even than catching 4.5 points, so inherent value lies with them. I'll lean on them owning the turnover battle, which should garner them a few extra possessions.
They also do a great job at limiting opponents' ability to gain offensive rebounds, so expect a bunch of one-shot possessions from Marquette.
While we always caution road teams, the advantages Marquette has play to Ed Cooley's strengths. We aren’t going to be bold enough to back the Hoyas straight up, but 4.5 is plenty of points.
My Pick: Georgetown +4.5
