Kansas Jayhawks 2021-22 Season

The Kansas Jayhawks came into the 2021-22 season looking to bounce back after a disappointing season by the program's standards. A lopsided second-round exit to the USC Trojans in 2021 left a sour taste in the mouth of the Jayhawks and the Kansas faithful. The Jayhawks were the preseason #3 team in the AP Poll, and with high expectations on this squad. Kansas was shocked early in the season with a loss to unranked Dayton at home. The Jayhawks have three other losses to ranked Texas Tech, Kentucky, and Texas. Kansas also has four strong ranked wins on their resume and currently sit at #6 in the polls. A strong finish to the regular season could see the Jayhawks as a potential #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Kansas is always expected to be among the few teams in contention as the odds on favorite to win the NCAA Tournament Championship. But, despite leading the Big 12 standings, Kansas is perhaps on the outside looking in to a handful of teams ahead of them expected to have a better chance of making the Final Four. The Kansas Jayhawks will look to prove doubters wrong from here on out and into March Madness.

Take a look at our college basketball odds to see how the Jawhawks shift in their push for the tournament.

Betting on the Kansas Jayhawks

The Kansas Jayhaws are still a top-tier team for oddsmakers heading into tournament season. Here are some of the popular bet types that you can make on the Jayhawks if you live in a legal sports betting state.

  • Moneyline
  • Point Spread
  • Over/Under
  • Props
  • Futures Odds

Kansas Moneyline

A moneyline bet requires a bettor to correctly pick the winner of the game. In most, if not every remaining game for the season, you can expect Kansas to be the favorite to win. If you pick the winner of the game correctly, you will win the bet. How much you win will be determined by your wager amount and the associated moneyline for the team you bet on. Here's an example using a recent Kansas game against Baylor.

  • Kansas -143 moneyline
  • Baylor +120 moneyline

Kansas is the team favored to win this game, which is indicated by the minus sign (-) next to their moneyline. Baylor is the underdog denoted by the plus sign (+) next to their moneyline. The moneyline number signifies the potential payout for each team. Someone betting on Kansas would have to bet $143to win $100 whereas a bettor would win $120 with a wager of $100 on Baylor.

Kansas Point Spread

Users can also place a point spread wager on the Kansas Jayhawks. This requires a bettor to correctly select the margin of victory by a particular team, rather than simply who wins. Here's the same Kansas vs. Baylor matchup as an example.

  • Kansas -2.5 (-112)
  • Baylor +2.5 (-112)

Oddsmakers set a margin of victory total known as the spread. In this game, Kansas has to win by 3 or more points to beat this spread and Baylor either has to win the game outright or lose by 2 points or less to beat the spread. Point spreads also have an additional element known as juice, or the vig, which is the tax paid to the sportsbook for each bet. The juice is indicated next to the point spread. This number is used to determine a wager payout. For a bet on the Jayhawks, a bettor would earn a profit of $100 for every $112 risked. The juice is equal in this game, so someone betting on Baylor would also earn a profit of $100 for every $112 risked.

Kansas Over/Unders

Betting on over/under totals looks at the cumulative final score between two teams, not the winner or loser of the game. Bettors are required to accurately predict if the teams combine higher or lower than a number set by oddsmakers. Oddsmakers set the over/under total for Kansas vs. Baylor at 145 points.

  • Over 145 points (-111)
  • Under 145 points (-109)

Again, juice or vig comes into play with over/unders. Betting over 145 points means in this case that a bettor would have to wager $111 to earn $100. Betting under 145 points would mean a bettors would earn $100 for every $109 risked.

Kansas Prop Bets

For those Kansas Jayhawks fans that have a particular favorite player, prop bets are a great way to show your support. Oddsmakers will also set lines on player statistics. Bettors then have the opportunity to guess whether those players will go over or under the set line to win money. Some popular prop bets include how many points a player will score, who will score first, how many rebounds a player gets, and many more.

Kansas Future Odds

If you like Kansas' odds to make the Final Four or win the NCAA Tournament, take a look at futures odds. A futures bet is a wager for an event happening in later in the season. Because a futures bet can be really hard to predict, the payouts are much higher than a typical wager. The Jayhawks are currently +275 to make the Final Four and +1400 to win the NCAA Tournament.
