Houston Cougars 2021-22 Season
The Houston Cougars enter March 2026 as one of the most feared units in the country, currently ranked No. 5 in the AP Poll. Coming off a heartbreaking National Championship loss in 2025, Kelvin Sampson’s squad remains the gold standard for defensive intensity, ranking 2nd nationally by allowing just 62.3 PPG. Despite a recent late-February slide against Big 12 giants Arizona and Kansas, the Cougars remain firmly on the 2-seed line and are a strong contender to jump back to a No. 1 seed if they perform well in the upcoming Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City.
The roster features a potent blend of veteran leadership and elite freshman talent. Senior guard Emanuel Sharp (16.4 PPG) and senior floor general Milos Uzan provide the backcourt stability, while freshman sensation Kingston Flemings has taken the league by storm, leading the team with 16.6 PPG and over 5.0 APG. Down low, the Cougars rely on the interior muscle of Joseph Tugler and five-star freshman Chris Cenac Jr. to maintain their status as the nation's premier rebounding and shot-blocking force. With the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight set to be played in Houston at the Toyota Center this year, the "Coogs" have every incentive to secure a high seed and play their way back to the Final Four on home soil.

Betting on the Houston Cougars
The Houston Cougars have some tough matchups remaining in the season, so be sure to pay close attention to the odds. Here are some of the popular bet types that you can make on the Cougars if you live in a legal sports betting state.
- Moneyline
- Point Spread
- Over/Under
- Props
- Futures Odds
Houston Moneyline
A moneyline bet requires a bettor to correctly pick the winner of the game. If you pick the winner of the game correctly, you will win the bet. How much you win will be determined by your wager amount and the associated moneyline for the team you bet on. Here's an example using a Houston game against Memphis.
- Houston -480 moneyline
- Memphis +360 moneyline
Houston is the favored team to win this game, which is indicated by the minus sign (-) next to their moneyline. Memphis is the underdog denoted by the plus sign (+) next to their moneyline. The moneyline number signifies the potential payout for each team. Someone betting on Houston would have to bet $480 to win $100 whereas a bettor would win $360 with a wager of $100 on Memphis.
Houston Point Spread
Users can also place a point spread wager on the Houston Cougars. This requires a bettor to correctly select the margin of victory by a particular team, rather than simply who wins. Here's the same Houston vs. Memphis matchup as an example.
- Houston -9.5 (-110)
- Memphis +9.5 (-110)
Oddsmakers set a margin of victory total known as the spread. In this game, Houston has to win by 10 or more points to beat this spread and Memphis either has to win the game outright or lose by 9 points or less to beat the spread. Point spreads also have an additional element known as juice, or the vig, which is the tax paid to the sportsbook for each bet. The juice is indicated next to the point spread. This number is used to determine a wager payout. For a bet on Houston, a bettor would earn a profit of $100 for every $110 risked. Someone betting on Memphis would earn a profit of $100 for every $110 risked.
Houston Over/Unders
Betting on over/under totals looks at the cumulative final score between two teams, not the winner or loser of the game. Bettors are required to accurately predict if the teams combine higher or lower than a number set by oddsmakers. Oddsmakers set the over/under total for UCLA vs. USC at 136.5 points.
- Over 141.5 points (-110)
- Under 141.5 points (-110)
Again, juice or vig comes into play with over/unders. Betting over 141.5 points means in this case that a bettor would have to wager $110 to earn $100. Betting under 141.5 points would mean a bettor would earn $100 for every $110 risked.
Houston Prop Bets
For those Houston fans that have a particular favorite player, prop bets are a great way to show your support. Oddsmakers will also set lines on player statistics. Bettors then have the opportunity to guess whether those players will go over or under the set line to win money. Some popular prop bets include how many points a player will score, who will score first, how many rebounds a player gets, and many more.
Houston Future Odds
If you like Houston’s odds to make the Final Four or win the NCAA Tournament, take a look at NCAAB futures odds. A futures bet is wager for an event happening later in the season. Because a futures bet can be really hard to predict, the payouts are much higher than a typical wager.
