Football season has arrived in the Front Range and we should expect another successful year from the Air Force Falcons in the new-look Mountain West.

The Falcons are looking to maintain their consistent level of winning that they’ve shown in the past five seasons. Air Force has won 10 games in three of the past five seasons, so its 9-4 campaign from 2023 in which it lost four straight games to end the regular season was somewhat of a disappointment. Double-digit wins is the standard established by AF head coach Troy Calhoun, who enters his 18th season in Colorado Springs.

Here’s some helpful information about betting on Air Force this season.

Betting on Air Force

Bettors will find many ways to wager on the Falcons in 2024. Before the season, futures markets like college football win totals and Mountain West championship odds are a great place to go.

Once the season starts, you can get in on the action more frequently with point spread bets, moneyline bets, and totals wagers, also known as over/under bets.

Betting the Air Force moneyline

A moneyline wager is very simple. It’s just betting on which team will win the game. There is no need to worry about how much a team wins by or covering the spread. Making a moneyline bet is simply betting on which team will walk away with a victory.

Let’s use a conference opponent in San Jose State for an example of how a moneyline market is priced. To be clear, moneyline odds are not out for this game yet, it’s just an example.

The important thing to know about moneylines is that a minus (-) designates a favorite, and a plus (+) designates an underdog. Since San Jose State is on the road in this hypothetical and generally a worse team than Air Force, SJSU is a sizable underdog. The Falcons, on the other hand, are big favorites for the same reasons.

This also means that there is less value in betting on Air Force to win because it is such a clear favorite. If you bet $10 on the Air Force moneyline and the Falcons won, you would win $3.33 with a total payout of $13.33. Conversely, if you bet on the Spartans’ moneyline and they win, then you would win $25 with a total payout of $35. Use the Action Network betting odds calculator to see how moneyline betting works.

Betting Air Force point spreads

Point spread bets are all about how much a team wins or loses by. These wagers are pretty much the essence of sports betting because the bettor attempts to gauge exactly how a team is.

Even elite programs like Georgia and Ohio State are expected to be .500 against the spread because the oddsmakers point spread odds to reflect the overall strength of a team. Georgia could beat a team 34-10, but if it was a -28 favorite, it would not cover.

Here’s a point spread bet example for Air Force

  • San Jose State +7.5 (-110)
  • Air Force -7.5 (-110)

Spread bets also have the favorite with a minus and the underdog with a plus. In order for Air Force to cover the spread, it would need to beat SJSU by at least eight points. A solid four-point win would not be enough. However, if San Jose State only lost by four points, it would cover the spread despite losing the game.

The corresponding -110 odds accompany most point spread bets, which means you would need to bet $1.10 for every $1 you’d like to win. Use the Action Network betting odds calculator for more information on betting the spread.

Betting the Air Force total

Total bets, or over/unders, are the third major betting market in college football. These wagers are just trying to guess whether the final score finishes above or below the listed score projection on a given sportsbook.

If the hypothetical San Jose State at Air Force game total is listed at 44.5 points, a 21-17 final score would hit the “under”, while a 27-20 final score would hit the “over”.

  • Over: 44.5 (-115)
  • Under: 44.5 (-105)

Just like spread betting, there are corresponding payouts for the over and under. So if a game is expected to be a high-scoring affair, the over would have less value than the under.

Air Force Player Props & other bets

College sports prop markets are not available in every sports betting state, so these markets may not be available to you even if you can legally bet on the game.

Bettors in states with college prop betting would be able to wager on individual statistical outcomes. This could be over/under total yards for a player (rushing, receiving, or passing) or touchdown props. Most of these bets would have plus-odds. Prop betting is far more available in the NFL compared to college football, so keep that in mind if you’re betting on college football.
PrizePicks is a great option for people in states without legal sports betting or college prop markets. The simple DFS app lets you pick player stats to finish above or below the PrizePicks listed total.
