Syracuse Orange 2024 Season Preview

The Syracuse Orange football team is entering the 2024 season with some challenges to overcome. In the previous season, they achieved a record of 6-7 under coach Dino Babers, who was dismissed after having just two winning seasons in eight years at the Cuse. The team must address some key areas, especially on offense and defense, to remain competitive in the ACC under new head coach Fran Brown.

On the offensive side, Syracuse lose experienced quarterback Garrett Shrader, but Brown was determined to make a splash in the portal and that's exactly what he did. 2023 Ohio State starting QB Kyle McCord elected to take his talents to Syracuse for this upcoming fall. He'll be accompanied by all-ACC running back LeQuint Allen. Additionally, the Orange return a dynamic tight end in Oronde Gadsden II, who suffered a season-ending injury early on in 2023.

Defensively, Syracuse will undergo a significant change with the arrival of veteran coordinator Elijah Robinson, who is coming from Texas A&M. Robinson consistently led top-tier defenses at College Station and will look to do the same in upstate New York. The Orange will pivot from a 3-3 stack to a 4-2-5 defense under Robinson. Defensive end Fadil Diggs followed coach Robinson from Texas A&M and should be a key contributor right away. On the second level, the Orange return Marlowe Wax and Derek McDonald at their linebacking corps.

Overall, the markets are expecting Syracuse to quickly rebound with a lofty 7-win over/under win total from consensus sportsbooks. The Orange hold the ninth shortest odds to win the ACC out of 17 teams at +4000 for this upcoming fall.

Syracuse Orange Point Spreads

Spread bets take into account the expected margin of victory and not just the outright winner of a game. Here’s one example:

• Syracuse +10 (-110)
• Pittsburgh -10 (-110)

The +10 means oddsmakers expect Syracuse to lose by 10 points. To “cover” the spread, all Syracuse needs to do is lose by 9 or fewer points, or win the game.
