Chicago has won back-to-back, out scoring LA and Anaheim by a combined 11-4. However, in those games they were outshot 73-43. In their most recent win vs LA, newly acquired goaltender Spencer Knight had an elite performance stopping 41/42 shots. The Hawks won’t have Knight as their safety net tonight as Arvid Soderblom is set to start tonight vs Ottawa, who has a 3.47 GAA and .890 SV% at home this season. The Senators have lost 7 of their last 8 games. But they have shown fight in their last two matchups, beating the Sharks and almost coming back to beat Washington before losing in a shootout. Even though it’s hard to trust a Sens team that’s dropped a lot of games recently, this is a must win game considering their position in the Eastern Conference standings. Sens need every win against teams that are below them in the standings. I expect some offensive regression from Chicago as well. Last two games they are shooting 25% at even strength and have scored four goals above expectation. To put things into perspective, the Blackhawks are shooting 10.2% at even strength this season. Will be tough to keep up that type of scoring against a Sens team that’s top 12 in scoring chances and high danger scoring chances allowed per game at even strength this season. Wouldn’t play the Sens to win regulation higher than -140, but public opinion and market will be higher on Chicago after their 5-1 win vs LA, so I don’t mind Sens -1.5 either.
