Ah, the Battle of Alberta. It's one of my favorite rivalries in sports. It may not have the same zest as it did a few years ago, but the hate is still alive.

Both the Edmonton Oilers (-275) and Calgary Flames (+220) are on the backend of a back-to-back, each feeling differently. Calgary is fresh off a 6-3 win against the Flyers, and Edmonton is still trying to recreate the spark it had last season.

I don’t know what the Oilers are doing. I thought perhaps the greatness of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl would usurp them to prominence to start the season. However, the Oilers seem to make it difficult on themselves. First, they suffer at home against Winnipeg, 6-0, and then they get humiliated by Chicago, 5-2.

The Flames have had a fun start to the season. I don’t want to be the guy who starts buying into the hype, but if you score 12 goals in two games, you have my attention.

Eventually, the goals won’t be as abundant, but for tonight, I think the Flame stays alive (pun intended). In goal for Edmonton, Stuart Skinner will look for redemption after Cal Pickard started last night. The problem with Skinner is that his volatility can make or break this franchise.

I’ve been a believer in Skinner since Day 1. Ever since he made his first start, I saw an NHL goalie. As time went on, he’s proven that he can’t be relied upon as an everyday starting netminder.

I don’t think Calgary has it much better. Projected starter Dan Vladar is, at best, a backup netminder who was lucky to pull out a win against Vancouver. Going up against the two best players in the world won’t help his confidence, either.

The goals have to come one way or another. Edmonton had one of the more dynamic offenses last season, and two goals in two games is not good enough. I expect the spell to break tonight.

Liodice's Pick: Flames vs. Oilers Over 6.5 (-110)

The opening two games for the Vegas Golden Knights (-300) featured 19 combined goals, and Sunday looks like a good matchup to target another high-scoring affair as they take on the Anaheim Ducks (+240).

Chances are both sides will have their backup goaltenders starting in this matchup. Lukas Dostal played Saturday night against San Jose, which means John Gibson likely gets the nod here. Adin Hill has started both games for Vegas, and this matchup offers a good chance to let Ilya Samsonov make his season debut.

Ducks games will likely be fairly high-scoring all season long, and I don't think we will see totals of 6 for long when they are playing other relatively high-event sides like Vegas. Anaheim's forward corps has a high ceiling in terms of offensive production, but it features a number of softer forwards who are far from defensive specialists.

Gibson has played to a -35.4 GSAx over the last three seasons of play. The Knights should be able to generate plenty of quality looks in this matchup versus a fairly bad defensive side, but it wouldn't be shocking to see Anaheim's offense do their share to get this game past six goals.

We'll play the Over 6 goals to -135.

Martin's Pick: Ducks vs. Golden Knights Over 6 (-122)
