Mississippi State Bulldogs 2021-22 Season

The Mississippi State Bulldogs came into the 2021-22 season with average expectations. They were not ranked in the preseason AP poll, and were widely predicted to finish in the middle of a loaded SEC. They finished below expectations, finishing 10th in the SEC. They are not predicted to make the NCAA Tournament unless they win the SEC Tournament

Their season may not have been what the Bulldogs hopeful expected, but they do have some big wins to hang their hat on. These include wins against Arkansas and Alabama. The Bulldogs will play South Carolina in the first round of the SEC Tournament, and will look to make a deep run in order to keep their hopes of an NCAA Tournament appearance alive.

Betting on the Mississippi St. Bulldogs

As the college basketball season comes to an end, there a limited opprotunities to bet on the Bulldogs. Here are some ways you can do it:

Mississippi St. Moneyline

A moneyline bet requires a bettor to correctly pick the winner of the game. If you pick the winner of the game correctly, you will win the bet. How much you win will be determined by your wager amount and the associated moneyline for the team you bet on. Here's an example using a Mississippi St. game against South Carolina

Miss. St. is the team favored to win this game, which is indicated by the minus sign (-) next to their moneyline. South Carolina is the underdog denoted by the plus sign (+) next to their moneyline. The moneyline number signifies the potential payout for each team. Someone betting on Miss. St. would have to bet $180 to win $100 whereas a bettor would win $140 with a wager of $100 on South Carolina.

Mississippi St. Point Spread

Users can also place a point spread wager on the Miss. St. This requires a bettor to correctly select the margin of victory by a particular team, rather than simply who wins. Here's the same Miss. St. vs. South Carolina matchup as an example.

  • Miss. St. -3.5 (-110)
  • South Carolina +3.5 (-120)

Oddsmakers set a margin of victory total known as the spread. In this game, Miss. St. has to win by four or more points to beat this spread and South Carolina either has to win the game outright or lose by three points or less to beat the spread. Point spreads also have an additional element known as juice, or the vig, which is the tax paid to the sportsbook for each bet. The juice is indicated next to the point spread. This number is used to determine a wager payout. For a bet on the Bulldogs, a bettor would earn a profit of $100 for every $110 risked. Someone betting on South Carolina would earn a profit of $100 for every $120 risked.

Mississippi St. Over/Unders

Betting on over/under totals looks at the cumulative final score between two teams, not the winner or loser of the game. Bettors are required to accurately predict if the teams combine higher or lower than a number set by oddsmakers. Oddsmakers set the over/under total for Mississippi St. v. South Carolina at 149.5 points.

  • Over 149.5 points (-108)
  • Under 149.5 points (-112)

Again, juice or vig comes into play with over/unders. Betting over 149.5 points means in this case that a bettor would have to wager $108 to earn $100. Betting under 149.5 points would mean a bettors would earn $100 for every $112 risked.

Mississippi St. Prop Bets

For those Bulldogs fans that have a particular favorite player, prop bets are a great way to show your support. Oddsmakers will also set lines on player statistics. Bettors then have the opportunity to guess whether those players will go over or under the set line to win money. Some popular prop bets include how many points a player will score, who will score first, how many rebounds a player gets, and many more.

Mississippi St. Future Odds

If you like the Mississippi State's odds to make the Final Four or win the NCAA Tournament, take a look at futures odds. A futures bet is wager for an event happening in the later in the season. Because a futures bet can be really hard to predict, the payouts are much higher than a typical wager. Currently the Bulldogs are +8000 to make the Final Four and +15000 to win the NCAA Tournament.
