Racked up 10 Ks in 2023 debut, but it was against the Twins, who had a laughable 64% contact rate on pitches in the zone. They rank 2nd worse in that metric while the Astros rank 3rd best. Don’t love the fact Astros have 8 RHB in the lineup but TM career K splits have been dead even against R/LHB. I also imagine he will still be limited to ~90 pitches which makes it unlikely for him to face the 6-9 hitters a 3rd time (they are by far his best chance to rack up Ks). Projecting this closer to -250

Disappointing 7.7 K/9 to start his career as he was expected to be a 9+ K/9 type of pitcher. His main struggle has been getting hitters to chase. He’s been getting better at that lately and faces a Cle team that chases at the 2nd highest rate. France also has 3 pitches that generate a 30% whiff rate, including a filthy curve that generates a 50%+ whiff rate. Cle has a tough lineup to K, but Zunino has a 40% K chance his first PA. I’m projecting this closer to -170

Would imagine he still operates within some sort of pitch count but it’s hard to pitch better than what he did in his debut.
Even if you cap him at 100 pitches his hit rate is just 38% on this the last two seasons, at 90 pitches it drops to 23%.
