The Braves enter this contest hot, having sustained much consistency, and their performance on Tuesdays has thus been remarkable. At 45-15 in its last 60 Tuesday games, Atlanta undoubtedly performs at its best on these midweek contests; thus, a trend that palpably goes hand-in-hand with the current momentum on the Braves' side. It is no doubt that the overall record of Atlanta stands tall with 81-69 against that of Cincinnati at 73-78, hence establishing a high disparity in the quality of the two opponents. Even the road performance of Atlanta carried a 42-33 record, outperforming the Reds' lousy 36-39 home mark to further punctuate how the Braves can handle the pressures of playing on the road.
The key determinant should be the pitching in this contest, and Atlanta has a distinct advantage. The rotation for the Braves has been far more reliable throughout the season, with a 3.55 ERA against 4.07 for Cincinnati. This trend is further heightened in recent form, as Braves starters have pitched a 2.43 ERA in the last 10 games while Cincinnati's starters have struggled with a 4.58 ERA over that period. This gives the Braves an important advantage through the critical first innings. The bullpen for Atlanta is also much more stable, sporting a 3.12 ERA for the year to the Reds' 3.82, setting up the Braves very well to lock down any late-game lead. In terms of recent matchups, the bullpen of this Atlanta team has been far better, posting a 3.38 ERA to that of Reds' relievers at 4.18.
In the case of runs prevention, again, the Braves stand right out.
It speaks to their ability to keep the other team off of the board as they only allow an average of 3.63 runs per game, well-ahead of the the Reds' 4.72. That certainly plays out regarding critical pitching metrics like opponent batting average and WHIP, in which Atlanta's pitchers show better command and control over their Cincinnati counterparts at 0.227 versus 0.255 and 1.17 versus 1.33 respectively. The Braves staff also strikes out more in a 9-inning span than their opponents do, 9.5 to 8.8 for Cincinnati, and those numbers suggest that Atlanta's hurlers are better at overpowering the hitters, which could prove to be the difference here. They also matchup real well offensively, with a lefty on the mound especially, they've hit .254 away from home the entire season. Having both their arms and bats in a good position to click, Atlanta is set up perfectly for this game. Expect the great Tuesday trend - and the normally superior performance metrics - to carry them to a win here.
