ML back down. Buying piece back/going for middle in what I think will be lower scoring game. Bet this partly with hope of bad SF roster news but opposite happened. Also concerned a bit more about Rodgers after watching Cousins yesterday. Niners by 3 please

The New York Jets enter this matchup rejuvenated by Aaron Rodgers' return from injury, elevating expectations after last season’s disappointing start. Rodgers’ track record against the 49ers is formidable, with a career 20:2 TD to INT ratio. With his elite precision, he’s set to exploit San Francisco’s pass defense, which ranked a mediocre 14th last season. The Jets also boast a solid running game led by Breece Hall, who averaged an impressive 4.5 yards per carry in 2023. Complementing the run game is their top receiving threat, Garrett Wilson, who has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first two NFL seasons. San Francisco’s pass defense, though talented, isn’t impenetrable, and with Rodgers' experience and offensive weapons, New York’s offense will look to challenge their secondary early and often.
Defensively, the Jets are stacked. C.J. Mosley is a tackling machine, and their secondary, anchored by Sauce Gardner, is among the best in the NFL. Gardner's ability to lock down opposing WRs is vital, especially against a dangerous 49ers’ receiving corps that includes Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. While Brock Purdy shined last season with over 4,000 passing yards, he’s never faced a secondary as elite as New York's, which ranked 2nd in the league against the pass. This could limit his effectiveness, especially given the Jets’ ability to pressure the quarterback and disrupt offensive rhythm.
On the other side, San Francisco’s defense, ranked 3rd against the run, will be a tough test for Breece Hall. However, Rodgers’ ability to get the ball out quickly and exploit mismatches in the passing game may negate their defensive strengths. While Nick Bosa and Fred Warner are game-wreckers, Rodgers’ veteran savvy and quick reads can counteract their pass rush, making it difficult for San Francisco to dominate defensively. Additionally, with some coaching changes, particularly on the defensive side with the departure of Steve Wilks, there could be some early season communication issues that a team like the Jets, with so many offensive weapons, can exploit.
With one of the league’s best defenses and an experienced, healthy quarterback in Rodgers, the Jets can keep this game close. San Francisco’s offense will likely struggle to consistently move the ball against New York’s stifling defense, especially in the passing game.

The Jets are still working out their offensive chemistry with Aaron Rodgers at the helm, and that won't translate to aggressive deep shots or big plays right away. With a revamped OL, the Jets will be relying on quick passes and max protection schemes to protect Rodgers, capping explosive downfield plays. Rodgers also needs more time in developing rapport with his receivers after missing most of 2023. The Jets would want to avoid risky plays, particularly against the elite 49ers defense that usually goes top-five in the league, and will pressure Rodgers by means of Nick Bosa's relentless pass rush. Back then, it can be said that 49ers secondary can also cover big passing plays-forcing the Jets into a conservative game plan.
On the other side, the 49ers offense is not built to light up the scoreboard either. While Brock Purdy has been efficient, the San Francisco game plan is centered on a run-first approach that chews up the clock. Christian McCaffrey-a little banged up-may have some of his snaps reduced, meaning the 49ers will lean even more into their run game and short-yardage plays. The Jets also have one of the best defenses in the NFL, headlined by Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner, which should keep the 49ers' scoring in check.
Both teams have tendencies on the conservative side that point toward a lower-scoring affair. Head coach Robert Saleh, needing to put a good product on the field, will make sure to avoid turnovers early in the year. Attacking-wise for the Jets, this means shorter, safer plays. The 49ers, who usually dictate game speed, will also take a similar approach. Rodgers has traditionally struggled against San Francisco's D, and returning from injury, could be a little time getting used to live-game speed. Since both defenses can set the tone and neither team has an explosive offense, the under is the play.

Tonight's matchup between the New York Jets and the San Francisco 49ers presents an intriguing contest between two teams with contrasting strengths. While the 49ers are generally considered one of the stronger teams in the league, there are several reasons why the Jets have a real shot at coming out on top tonight.
1. Defensive Matchup
The Jets' defense, led by standout cornerback Sauce Gardner, has been one of their strongest units. Against a 49ers offense that relies heavily on the run game and short passes to playmakers like Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel, the Jets' ability to control the line of scrimmage and stifle explosive plays could be the deciding factor. If they can generate pressure on Brock Purdy and force him into making mistakes, the Jets will have the upper hand.
2. Quarterback Play
While the 49ers have been riding the strong and efficient play of Purdy, the Jets’ QB has an opportunity to rise to the occasion. If the Jets can establish an early rhythm through the air, taking advantage of mismatches in the secondary, they can put the 49ers' defense on their heels. Key players like Garrett Wilson could exploit the 49ers' defensive schemes and make big plays downfield.
3. Run Game Advantage
The Jets' running backs, led by Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook, have the capability to control the pace of the game. The 49ers have a solid run defense, but if the Jets' offensive line can create just enough holes, they can establish a run game that keeps the 49ers’ offense off the field. This will not only wear down San Francisco's defense but also open up play-action opportunities for the Jets' offense to hit explosive plays downfield.
4. Motivation & Underdog Mentality
Coming into this game as the underdog, the Jets have nothing to lose and everything to prove. Playing with a chip on their shoulder, especially in a prime-time game, often brings out the best in teams. This extra motivation could fuel a focused and energetic performance from the Jets on both sides of the ball. The home crowd could also play a major role, creating a hostile environment for the 49ers.
5. Key Injuries for the 49ers
The 49ers have a few key injuries to players like offensive tackle Trent Williams or a banged-up defense, which could give the Jets an edge. If the 49ers’ offensive line is not at full strength, it could struggle to protect Purdy from the Jets' aggressive pass rush. This could lead to turnovers or missed opportunities that the Jets can capitalize on.
In conclusion, while the 49ers may come into the game as favorites, the Jets have the pieces to pull off an upset. A strong defensive performance, a balanced offensive attack, and the ability to capitalize on mistakes can help New York secure a big win tonight.

Bet365 is 6-7 yards below the market at hand here.
Between Trent Williams returning after missing all of preseason, Brandon Aiyuk doing the same and CMC nursing multiple injuries - he says he’s 100% but who knows - this makes up for a ‘get Deebo the ball game’
Shanny is elite at drawing up schemes to get his receivers open and we should see a few Carries for Deebo as well with Elijah Mitchell out and Jordan Mason backing up CMC
Obviously a difficult matchup vs. NYJ but buying on a bad number vs. rest of market on a high-upside player

Last season after they took the training wheels off, Breece was over this line in 9/13. Rodgers in at QB now, and he’s no stranger to throwing to RBs - his last two seasons in GB, his RBs averaged 5.2 catches per game in each season). Hall will be backed up by Braelon Allen, who isn’t a great receiver - it’s likely the Jets ride their guy right out of the gate.
The 49ers defense the last few seasons has been predicated on keeping the ball in front of them (Sorensen is the new DC, but has been on the staff for a few seasons now - and Shanahan has mentioned the importance of Sorensen already knowing the scheme). Last season they allowed the sixth most catches per game to RBs (5.3), and the fifth lowest aDOT (7.2 yards). And their coverage on the flats will take a hit with no Greenlaw this season.
I see the Jets scripting some plays for Hall as a receiver (he lead the NFL with 30 screen targets last season - 28 of them in the finals 13 game stretch). And with the Jets wanting to keep Rodgers upright, checkdowns will happen as well. Wilson will have a tough spot vs Ward, Mike Williams is not a volume threat, and Corley is a rookie. Plus, Tyler Conklin, another check down option, has a brutal matchup.
Play to -145.
