Imanaga’s faced a brutal schedule to open the year — two starts each against the Padres and Dodgers, plus one vs. the D-backs. Now he gets his softest matchup yet in the Pirates, who strike out at the 6th-highest rate in MLB. Pittsburgh’s lineup is front-loaded with K-prone hitters, giving Shota a shot to rack up extra whiffs early and possibly catch the top of the order a third time before getting pulled. The Pirates swing at the lowest rate in the league, and Imanaga excels at filling the zone — a recipe for deeper counts and more two-strike counts. With a favorable umpire in Charlie Ramos (specifically where he likes to miss his split finger, middle/low) and a +14.5 priority score, I like him in this buy-low spot, even if there’s not a huge projected edge (-145).
