Very likely my final bet on JV. I’ve been betting on (and against) him since around 2008, and here we are in his age-42 season with a 5.5 K prop still on the board. He’s always been more of a “pitcher” than a thrower, and this year he’s adjusted by pounding the zone early and getting ahead in the count. It’s helped him maintain a K rate of 20%+ this late in his HOF career, at the expense of allowing harder hit contact. Today’s matchup plays right into his long-standing platoon trend, he’s striking out lefties 4% more often this season and faces six of them today (compared to his 4.4 avg). It’s also the 3rd-highest expected K% lineup he’s faced all season. I project this closer to -130.
