Marquette had a rough Saturday, losing outright to an underwhelming Uconn squad as a 7-point favorite at home. However, we now get to buy low on this team in a spot where they usually thrive: as a road dog. Shaka Smart teams are 39-21 ATS (65%) as road dogs when catching 3 points or more. I also think St. Johns’ record is a little bit misleading. While they are a strong squad, they have played a weaker schedule than Marquette, and they have yet to face a team ranked inside the top 20 per KenPom, Torvik and Haslametrics. In fact, they have only played 3 games against teams that are ranked inside the top 40 overall per KenPom – and they went 0-3 SU in those games. They have been winning with an elite defense, but the Golden Eagles’ offense will be a big challenge and should be able keep them in this game. Marquette has bounced back with impressive wins after each of their losses this season, and I could see an outright win in this one.
