Allen spent over a month trying to play through hand injuries that directly compromised the foundation of his game. He sprained the middle finger on his right hand and later fractured the ring finger on his left, making it difficult to consistently catch, finish, rebound, or make touch passes. Cleveland ultimately shut him down to avoid long-term issues and allow proper healing. In his 12/14 return vs. Charlotte, matched up against traditional bigs Ryan Kalkbrenner and Moussa Diabate, Allen’s minutes were clearly managed. He played just two minutes in the fourth quarter as he continues to ramp back up to full NBA pace, particularly in pick-and-roll coverage and defending in space. Tonight, I’m projecting him for roughly 24–28 minutes. Cavs were not afraid to go small, and still have Dean Wade, Thomas Bryant that can close over him. Even with Evan Mobley ruled out, the rebounding upside isn’t as clean as it looks. As the lone big, Allen averages 8.08 rebounds per 26 minutes, which tempers expectations. The matchup also isn’t a pure smash. While Chicago profiles as a good spot on paper, Billy Donovan has leaned into Smith–Collins double-big lineups over the last six quarters, improving their control of the glass and limiting second-chance opportunities. #PlayerProps

The Bulls face off against the Cavaliers on Wednesday evening and I’ll be targeting Coby White. Coby has been solid once again for Chicago despite any trade rumors. He is averaging 21.7 points per game and that’s despite three games in a row where he fell short of this number. Part of this had to do with the Warriors and the Hornets both limiting three point attempts to a certain degree, and then the match against the Pelicans where he was basically building a house from three-point range brick by brick as he was 1/10 from beyond the arc. The Cavaliers are without Evan Mobley which negatively impacts their defense and puts a further strain on Mitchell and Garland as scoring threats. I expect White to find success against this Cleveland defense. Last season he scored 20+ in all three games and took double digit three-point attempts in each of those. I’m expecting plenty of volume from White today and I’ll back him in this spot.

Both teams are in rough shape right now, 2 of the worst spread differential teams of the past 2 weeks according to Cleaning the Glass. Strong signal to take the home team catching points, especially with Mobley still missing in action for Cleveland. He hasn’t been great this year, but they have no direct defensive replacement with him out of the lineup, and Chicago can score. Bulls also 4-1 ATS this season as a home dog.
